A couple who filmed themselves beating their new puppy with a slipper have lost an appeal against an animal cruelty fine.

Sydney couple Ms Chen and Mr Deng claimed they accidentally uploaded shocking footage of themselves beating their pet Spitz to Chinese social media site Weibo.

In the footage the dog is seen cowering on the floor surrounded by rubbish in the couple's apartment in the affluent inner city suburb of Forest Lodge while being threatened and beaten repeatedly.

Upon discovering the video the RSPCA levelled charges against the cruel pair who appeared in the Downing Centre Local Court on October 11.

'Each pleaded guilty to committing an act of cruelty after they shared a video beating their white Spitz puppy on social media. Apparently intending only to share with a family member,' the RSPCA said.

They were each fined $600 and ordered to pay RSPCA costs of $755.42 and prohibited from purchasing, acquiring, taking control of or possessing any animals for 12 months.

As usual this is insufficient punishment. Here is how to correct it.

Barred from owning pets again ever. 5 years each in jail. All Associated court costs treatment cost and rehoming costs in this instance should be leveled at them squarely. If they cannot or will not compensate as ordered by the court additional 10 years and forfeiture of all assets. Public slapping and beatings in the face with foot wear of our choice. May I suggest a hobnail boot.
