Louisiana authorities say a 25-year-old woman is accused of burning a 6-month-old boy to death.

The state fire marshal’s office said in a news release Monday that Felicia Marie-Nicole Smith of Natchitoches (NAK-uh-tesh) was arrested Saturday on a charge of first-degree murder in the death Tuesday of Levi Cole Ellerbe.

The burned baby was found more than an hour after his mother reported him kidnapped Tuesday night. The mother told Natchitoches police two strangers banged on her door and sprayed her with a chemical. Police say she ran away and came back to find her son was gone.

He was found after a woman reported a fire near some railroad tracks. He died in a hospital.

25-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of an infant last week in Natchitoches.

Felicia Marie-Nicole Smith was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center Saturday in connection to the death of Levi Cole Ellerbe.

According to the Natchitoches Police Department, the boy was kidnapped from his mother on Tuesday night. The mother had opened her door after a knock, and two suspects sprayed her in the face with what she believed to be Mace.

Emergency services were first called to the Mayberry Trailer Park by a mother who said that two suspects who she did not know came to her home, sprayed her with tear gas, and took off with her baby, reports NPD.

A search for the 6-month-old boy was launched involving officers from the Natchitoches Police Department, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police and the Northwestern State University Police Department.

Around one hour later, officers responded to a report of a fire and discovered the baby, about a mile and a half away from the trailer park.

Levi was taken to the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center before being airlifted to University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

"I just seen it on fire. I didn't see nobody or nothing,” Kanika Johnson, a Natchitoches resident who saw the baby, told The Town Talk newspaper. "I just thought some kids might have set it on fire or something. I had called the police and told them to hurry up and send somebody to put the fire out before it spreads."

The Natchitoches Police Department has instituted an "information blackout" regarding the case, and Chief Micky Dove refused to answer questions Tuesday regarding a rumored relationship between Smith and Levi's mother, Hanna Barker.
Smith remains in jail with no bond set.
According to the department, the boy was kidnapped from his mother on the night of July 17. The first release about the incident stated that Barker said she had opened her door after hearing beating on it, and two suspects sprayed her in the face with what she believed to be Mace.

She escaped the suspects, but soon discovered that Levi was missing. She called 911 to report it.
The baby, only days from being 7 months old, was found just more than an hour later in a fire that had been set beside an elevated railroad track on Breda Avenue, about a mile-and-a-half away from the trailer park on the La. Highway 1 Bypass from where he was taken.

NATCHITOCHES, LA
– A woman has been charged with murder after she allegedly kidnapped a 6-month-old boy and setting him on fire.

I was just about to stop for the day but saw this headline and figured I would share.

Last Tuesday, police were called to the Mayberry Trailer Park by a Hanna Barker who said a man and woman she did not know came to her front door and sprayed her in the face with mace.

Barker said she panicked and ran from the trailer, leaving her 6-month-old son, Levi Ellerbe, behind. When she circled back to her trailer, she found Levi was missing.

Police were in the process of searching for the boy when they were notified about a fire by some nearby railroad tracks. It was there they found the badly burned body of Levi.

The boy was taken to the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center before being airlifted to University Medical Center, where he would die from his injuries.

On Saturday, police made their first arrest. Felicia Marie-Nicole Smith, 25, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.

I couldn’t find any further information regarding a motive or if there are other suspects.

“The investigation is on-going and no further information will be released at this time,” Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal said in a statement.

No mention of voodoo yet. But that could change.

Looks like it might be criminal gang retaliation.

So her baby was kidnapped ? But she was charged with murder ?

I don't understand ... the baby looks Caucasian, the mom Looks Caucasian ... but its black woman's mug shot.

Can someone help me understand this ? Why does it say the Mom was charged with murder?

I think that part was written in error.

I can say this much, it wasn't random. We'll just have to wait for all the details.

There’s something I don’t get about this story. They said the kidnapper was at the funeral and nobody had any idea she did it. But the mother answered the door and saw her and ran off. Also the police said they are known to each other. So it’s not adding up.

I think the reason there is so much confusion is the news blackout, so media and others are just filling in the blanks with what seems to make the most sense, but it is wrong, for the most part.

Did anyone else notice that the main photo posted of the adorable, smiling baby was taken in a CEMETERY among the headstones? That seems weird as fuck to me. @Craygor might just be on the right track with the voodoo ritual. It would also explain the "information blackout", because in most murders, even those involving children, there is no such blackout. But something as sensational as voodoo or Santeria or similar might warrant one, because that would be instant, sensationalized, world-wide news.

It is unclear if Smith (the arrested woman) and Hanna Barker (mother of the baby) knew each other personally, but the pair are friends on Facebook.

So here is at least part of the connection between the two women.

Levi, who had three sisters, Brookelaine, Elizabeth, and Nevaeh, was laid to rest on Friday. His obituary described him as 'the happiest baby who always had a big smile'.

I'm surprised it wasn't Nevaeh who ended up dead, given the track record of that name.

Couldn’t it be that they kidnapped the baby for ransom or as collateral for a drug debt- But maybe once the cops became involved & the heat was coming down, the woman panicked & decided to get rid of the baby?

I’d be interested to see the criminal history of the baby’s mom- maybe she knows more than she originally reported?

Not as exciting as voo doo or santaria but we’ve seen cases like this before:
