A man who had one infant daughter die of unknown causes in 2016 was charged Wednesday with murdering a 7-week-old daughter.

Zachary Lee Littell, 25, told investigators his weeks-old daughter, Harper Littell, fell from a portable baby bathtub while unattended Jan. 3, according to the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office. The child died at a hospital two days later.

Medical officials, however, said the child’s injuries were inconsistent with Littell’s story. Her head was swollen on both sides and she was bruised on her lips and the back of her head – determined to be caused by blunt force.

Littell was charged with one count of murder Wednesday, after the medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

Another daughter born to Littell and Abigail Neiger-Bickham died of an undetermined cause Aug. 4, 2016, at 8 months old,

LITTELL

Headline brought back some memories. My eldest daughter actually fell off a stationary changing station/baby bath when she was only a few months old. I can never deny it was my fault and I still feel terrible 8 years later. I had took my eye off her for a split second to grab a nappy from under the changing station, so I hadn't even moved at all just took my eye off her. Took her to hospital and she was fine thank fuck, no problems at all. Now while I do not abuse my kids and that was a complete accident, I found it very strange I was never contacted by anybody to make sure I wasn't a violent psychopath. Not once did anybody ask me the hard questions. While I am glad I never had those issues it scares the shit out of me to think that ppl are probably hurting their kids all the time and getting away with it.

I have to wonder if he was pissed off they were girls in the first place. These two baby girls didn't stand a chance. They need to reinvestigate the death of the infant that died in 2016. I have no doubt he killed her.

Thats because you took her right to the hospital and didnt come up with flimsy ass excuses as to why or how it happened.

According to the autopsy Harper had bleeding in the space between the brain and the tissue covering the brain, skull fractures and brain edema.

“Based on scene circumstances and autopsy findings, it is my opinion that the cause of death in this case is blunt force injuries of the head,” Dr. MGF Gilliland, the Pitt County Medical Examiner, wrote in his report.

An Onslow County man accused of murdering his infant daughter back in 2018 will be headed to prison.

Zachary Littell ntered an Alford plea to second-degree murder in the death of his seven-week-old daughter, Harper.

Deputies said the father told them his daughter fell from a portable baby bathtub, but investigators said her injuries were not consistent with a fall like that.

Prosecutors said an autopsy showed the baby died from blunt force trauma to the head.

The plea deal would have Littell serve between 18 and 22-1/2 years in state prison. Judge Henry then sentenced the man to serve that time after hearing emotional statements from the victim’s family.

Harper was not Littell’s only young daughter to die.

Records show Littell, and the baby’s mother, Abigail Neiger-Bickham, had another daughter, Ava, on November 30th, 2015. The baby’s death certificate says she died on August 4th, 2016 and an autopsy listed her cause of death as “undetermined”.

The child’s maternal grandmother said the nine-month-old died of SIDS.
