A 22-year-old Pomfret man is facing several charges after a month-old infant suffered serious injuries "consistent with shaking baby syndrome," according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Zachary Beausoleil is charged with risk of injury to minor and was taken into custody Monday, according to Connecticut State Police.
The warrant said a month-old infant was brought to Day Kimball Healthcare in Putnam on Aug. 4, 2023, after the child had not eaten for a period of time. At the hospital, the warrant said doctors determined the baby had "several critical injuries such as multiple rib fractures at various stages of healing and multiple active brain bleeds."
A social worker at the Massachusetts hospital told an investigator that they had spoken to Beausoleil, with whom the infant lived, and he said baby was not acting right. The warrant said the social worker then informed Beausoleil that the infant had injuries sustained from abuse.
During an interview with investigators, the warrant said Beausoleil stated the infant had several complications at birth but had been "a healthy baby when they returned home from the hospital." The warrant said Beausoleil did admit that the infant fell from his arms after he stepped on glass a few days prior, but the baby "grunted but was not crying." He also said, according to the warrant, that he did fall on the baby "but he didn't think his full body weight landed on her."
The warrant said that investigators were able to see Beausoleil's search history, and it revealed he was searching cracked ribs in infants two weeks after the baby came home from the hospital. The day Beausoleil had fallen on the child, he searched "throwing up green bile," the warrant said.
Two days after he had fallen on the baby, the warrant said Beausoleil searched "fluid filled bump on baby's head," the warrant added.

The warrant said that after investigators spoke with Beausoleil, he refused to speak to them any other time without an attorney.
In December 2023, an attorney sent a "four page sworn written statement" from Beausoleil claiming the other adult had mental health issues and he did not know how the baby was injured. The warrant said that Beausoleil began to suspect "weeks later" that the other adult was the one who had injured the infant.

During their first interview, Beausoleil told state police he had no issues with his partner. However, on Dec. 6, 2023, he contradicted that and made claims of mental health issues and self harm against that person.

This is why you have to be careful who you procreate with - when his ass is busted he thought nothing of throwing the mother under the bus.

Smirk needs to wiped off his face STAT. A poor baby is seriously injured and this asshat smirks in his mug shot? Whether he did it or not (probably) he should not be smirking in his mugshot-he looks full and content with himself. He needs prison time just for this mugshot alone.

Hope baby recovers and there is no lasting damage-multiple active brain bleeds, that's bad
