A man was shot and killed Friday night in the parking lot of a Hermitage business after a robbery "prank" for a YouTube channel went wrong, according to Metro Nashville police.

The homicide unit is investigating a claim of self-defense in the shooting, MNPD stated in a Saturday news release.

Timothy Wilks, 20, was shot and killed in the parking lot of Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park around 9:20 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene around five minutes later, 23-year-old David Starnes Jr. admitted to shooting Wilks.

Investigators were told that Wilks and a friend approached a group of people, including Starnes, with butcher knives while participating in a "prank" robbery for a YouTube video.

Starnes, who told officers he was unaware of the prank, said he shot Wilks in defense of himself and others, according to the release.

The plan for this “prank “ was not well laid, they didn’t really think this out to the end result. Who thinks getting robbed at knifepoint is humorous ? Sorry the guy was shot and so sorry that the shooter is put through the emotional drama of an investigation! Not too bright, his bulb was dim!

One does not do that kind of shit in USA. The best killer clown prank videos for example can only be done in countries where people do not carry.

And besides, wth is funny or in any sense good to watch about a prank robbery?????? what kind of appeal is that.

David Starnes Jr. was never sentenced or charged for the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Timothy Wilks in February 2021. The incident took place in the parking lot of a Nashville, Tennessee, indoor trampoline park, where Wilks and a friend approached a group of people with butcher knives while filming a "robbery prank" for a YouTube video
