ST. LOUIS COUNTY — Romana Williams said she knew something was wrong when her son ran up a steep, brambled embankment beside a creek near their home.

The two were scouring the North County neighborhood for any sign of Williams' daughter, Latonya G. Fiertag, 37, who had been missing for four days.

"He said, 'Momma, I found her. She's dead,'" Williams said Monday from her home, one block from the spot where the body was discovered.

"She did not deserve that."

Fiertag, a mother of four, was found Saturday on a mud ledge beneath a concrete footbridge over a creek near the intersection of Bon Oak and Bella Clare drives, just east of Dellwood. She was last seen Wednesday.

It is unclear how or when Fiertag died, but St. Louis County police are sure it was a homicide, spokesman Rick Eckhard said. No suspects have been arrested.

A north St. Louis County man faces charges of first-degree murder for allegedly killing his girlfriend and dumping her body in a creek.

The body of 37-year-old Latonya Fiertag was found under a foot bridge. Authorities announced charges against 26-year-old Jessie Meanus.

Witnesses tell police thy saw Meanus and Fiertag arguing in the driveway of their home on April 9th. Authorities say Fiertag was hit over the head with a baseball bat and choked.

Witnesses then reportedly saw Meanus put Fiertag in a large trash bin, close the lid and wheel the can toward the creek where her body was found three days later. According to the medical examiner, the woman died by strangulation.

Jessie R. Meanus, 27, has admitted beating his girlfriend with a baseball bat and then strangling her during an argument April 9, 2008, outside their home in north St. Louis County.

Meanus pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, first-degree assault and armed criminal action in the death of Latonya Fiertag, 37.

Meanus faces life in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 19.
