Laclede County deputies arrested a woman accused of spiking her husband’s Mountain Dew with Roundup.

Michelle Y. Peters, 47, faces charges of first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action. A judge ordered no bond for Peters.
Laclede County deputies arrested Peters Monday. Investigators say she added the Roundup to her husband’s Mountain Dew, on several occasions, during May and June. They say she also spiked the drink with an insecticide.

“It is a different type of domestic assault,” said Laclede County Sheriff David Millsap.
Investigators say he began to suspect something wrong with his drink after feeling ill. The victim provided surveillance video to investigators that indicated Peters was tampering with the Mountain Dew in the garage refrigerator. The victim told authorities he was the only one in the home who drank the Mountain Dew kept in that refrigerator.
Sheriff Millsap says while it’s uncommon, domestic violence against men does happen.

“In domestic situations, we know that 85 percent of domestic assault victims are females, not males. But it’s underreported usually with males when it comes to domestic assaults,” he said.
Sheriff Millsap says Peters finally admitted to putting the weed killer in her husband’s drink and says she was mad because he didn’t appreciate the 50th birthday party she threw for him.

Peters has entered a plea of not guilty. She’s scheduled to be back in court next week.

Her husband did survive.
