Destinee Ballard, 22, was arrested on charges of child abuse, child neglect, and child endangerment after allegedly leaving her 4-month-old son for dead underneath a woodpile for approximately 12 hours.

The infant’s grandfather found the boy shortly after 9:30 p.m. after investigating a noise he heard from a woodpile in the backyard. The man said he thought a cat was making the noise but upon closer inspection, he located a baby under the pile of wood wearing nothing but a diaper, which was full of feces, dirt, and debris.

At first, neither grandparent recognized the child and wondered who could have left a baby there. Upon cleaning up the boy, however, they realized it was their own grandchild.

The grandparents confronted the child’s mother, Destinee Ballard, who allegedly told them that she believed her baby was deceased. Upon informing her that the baby was found underneath the woodpile, Ballard allegedly said the infant “must have reincarnated.”

At that point, the grandmother called the police, who were dispatched at about 10:06 p.m. Upon arrival, officers noted the child had several scrapes to his arms, legs, neck, and face – which was also flushed red likely due to sun exposure. An ambulance was dispatched and paramedics examined the boy. Afterward, he was left in the care of his grandparents.

When questioned, Ballard allegedly told an officer that her child had died from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The grandmother advised Ballard had been acting odd all day.

"She was acting odd all day." lol No one was concerned at all of how she looked, no one went to see if the baby was okay? The whole family must be low IQ.
Bitch needs to stop watching youtube makeup tutorials and maybe get a mental health eval. Just saying. Kylie Jenner's Lip Kit gone bad. Could imagine your girlfriend takes a shower and her entire face falls off? Hahahaha

The turd didn't want the baby. That's all it was. Just a lie about SIDS. Dead babies are very, very different from live ones, there is this certain muscle tone (ie: complete lack of) that the dead ones have, but the live ones, always if conscious. Also there is this breathing thing, and heartbeat. The heartbeat is kinda easy to feel.

also: what disgusting pictures. And, LOTS of filter work exposed by the wholly real and unfiltered mugshot!

Yeah, even if my baby died, the woodpile would be my last thought as far as final resting places.

Officers said the mother, identified as Destinee Ballard, initially said she had miscarried a baby and, when confronted with the baby’s situation, said the child must have “reincarnated.”

Ballard’s parents told officers she had been acting “strange” of late and officers said Ballard repeatedly answered, “I don’t know” to questions regarding her child.

Reincarnated huh? Is she going with a Virgin Mary defense? Pretty sure Mary could’ve figured out how to not put lipstick up to her septum. Her mugshot screams “will suck dick for bath salts”

eta is that a hickey on her neck on the first photo under the mugshot?

Another mom who chose a drug binge over her own baby. The "reincarnated" excuse adds so much insult to injury and makes her come off as remorseless and cold hearted. I hope it comes back to bite her hard in court.

when I saw her mug shot my first thought was planned insanity plea for when her baby was found dead it screams of "see I wasn't myself, I must have been insane to put my makeup on like this that day." I live where there is lots of homeless and drugs and mental problems and I have yet to see one woman or man put on make up like this, most of them put my attempt at make look like I new at make up

A woman who left her 4-month-old son for dead underneath a woodpile for approximately 12 hours has been given a chance to show that with the assistance of medication and counseling she will no longer be a danger to any of her children.

Destinee Ballard, 23, was sentenced to three years on probation after pleading guilty to endangerment and was released from custody after having spent the last 193 days in jail.

She still faces the possibility of being sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison, but that will be decided in November after seeing how she performs on probation.

Ballard was initially arrested on Sept. 11, 2020, after having placed her 4-month-old son underneath a woodpile and then leaving him to nature and the elements. The infant’s grandfather found him later on that night and saved him.

At that time, Ballard allegedly told her mother that she believed the baby to be deceased. Ballard was arrested and charged with three counts of child abuse and one count of endangerment.

Ballard was found to have mental health issues and had to go through a process to restore competency to stand trial, which included taking medication.

Ballard pleaded guilty to an amended charge of attempted child abuse and dangerous crime against a child, and endangerment. The plea agreement dismissed two of the child abuse counts and gave a stipulated term of three years on probation on the endangerment charge with sentencing on the attempted child abuse charge left up to the court.
During the hearing Monday, the court was informed that Ballard’s four children are living with their father at Ballard’s parents’ residence and that if Ballard would be released she would be living with her sister in Pima. Ballard will only be granted supervised visits with her children to be overseen by Ballard’s mother or another adult approved by her mother. Ballard’s mother was at the hearing and advised the court of how her daughter had improved with the help of her medication.

During the hearing, Judge Peterson said it was time Ballard focused on getting herself to a better place with the help of counseling and by continuing to take her medication.

“(That’s) a lot of kids for a 23-year-old,” Judge Peterson said. “If I saw you walking down the street, I would think you were much younger than 23. You seem very nice . . . I have some grave concerns about you. Frankly – four children – you need to not have any more kids. You need to take care of yourself and the ones that you have in due time. Right now, you need to work on yourself.”

Graham County Attorney L. Scott Bennett agreed with Judge Peterson’s decision to defer sentencing on the more serious charge and said that he thought it to be a good idea as part of the plea agreement involves community wellness.

“The court might get a very, very good perspective as to whether or not this defendant can comply with medication,” Bennett said. “My reading of the report is she’s now basically medication-dependent. I think before we make any major decisions which could result in up to 15 years in prison, a period of observation when it comes to her compliance of medication is a great idea.”

Judge Peterson then sentenced Ballard to her three years on probation and advised that the court would see her again on Nov. 15 to sentence her on her attempted child abuse charge.
