A mother was allegedly intoxicated when she drove into a tree, killing her 6-year-old son.

Danyelle Linette Pressey, 35, is charged with operating while intoxicated causing the December death of Jameson Pressey and second-degree child abuse.

Jameson was improperly belted at the time of the crash, Andrew Childers, Washtenaw County assistant prosecuting attorney, said in a Thursday, May 15 hearing

Danyelle Pressey, who appeared in custody on Thursday, had a blood-alcohol content of 0.038, as well as THC and amphetamine in her system, Childers said.

Michigan law defines operating while intoxicated as having a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 or more, or being under the influence of alcohol, a controlled substance or other “intoxicating substance” or a combination of such substances.
The crash occurred Dec. 3, 2024, although the exact location or time is unclear. Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately release additional information.

She was going 60 mph, over the speed limit for the area, Childers said.

Michael Gatti, Pressey’s public defense attorney, said the amphetamine was a prescribed medication.
In a Dec. 4 letter to parents, Lapeer Community Schools Superintendent Matt Wandrie asked the school community to keep Pressey and his family in their thoughts and prayers.

“There are few details known at this time and we want to respect the family’s privacy,” he said in the letter. “We encourage you to discuss this situation at home with your child(ren) if you feel comfortable doing so. We have made arrangements for Lynch students to dialogue with trusted adults as they cope with this difficult news tomorrow and the days to come.”
Pressey, who also went by his nickname “Jay,” attended Elva Lynch Elementary School in Mayfield Township, where he was loved by his teachers and many friends. He enjoyed video games, his dogs and his family and considered himself quite the YouTuber, according to his obituary posted on the Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer’s website.

Lynch Elementary held a ceramic ornament-making fundraiser for Pressey and his family on Wednesday night. A GoFundMe page entitled “Help Jameson’s Family Through This Tragic Time” has also been set up.

I really wish the journalist that are reporting these stories would do their research before just posting things that affect real people's lives. Jameson is my grandson and Danyelle my daughter. I can promise you that she was NOT intoxicated on the night of the accident that took the life of her son. She did have Amphetamine in her system from a prescription she has been taking for over five years. Her BAC which was 0.038 was from a pineapple chunck that was at the bottom of a sangria punch. Jameson was a very loved little boy and articles like the one above hurts the family, please be mindful of that when you post these.

intoxicated dosent have to mean drunk, as yes 0.038 is no where close to over the limit.. the drugs may have come into play, but going that fast with a child in the car is an accident waiting to happen..

I am very sorry for your loss, sending love and strength to get through this horrible time.
