MINGO COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — A woman is accused of attempting to “sacrifice” a cat in a brush fire she started in Mingo County, court records said.
Misty Dawn Cramer, 30, is charged with arson and cruelty to animals after an incident Wednesday in the Red Jacket area, according to a criminal complaint filed in Mingo County Magistrate Court.
Deputies were initially called to the post office in Red Jacket to investigate a nearby brush fire where they found a burned area about 30 feet long and 20 feet wide and a dead cat nearby.
Cramer allegedly told witnesses she was attempting to “sacrifice” the cat by throwing it into the fire, the complaint said. Deputies said the cat appeared to have been strangled.
Investigators said Cramer was allegedly attempting to burn a nearby gazebo, but the fire was capable of spreading to the post office had firefighters not gotten to it quickly.
