Philippines Immigration Bureau spokesman Melvin Mabulac said they received a report around 6.20 a.m. Wednesday that a 43-year-old woman had been caught with a child in her bag at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila.

CNN Philippines said the baby was just six days old.

According to Mabulac, the woman appeared to be traveling alone and only presented her personal passport. But when staff inspected an oversized carry-on suitcase, they found the child inside.

"She did not have any travel documents for the infant," the spokesman said.

The woman had claimed to be the child's aunt, but had not provided any evidence that they were related, CNN Philippines reported.

Philippines authorities have detained an American woman who attempted to board a flight with a six day old infant concealed in her carry-on luggage. The unidentified 43 year old claims to be the child's aunt - but she was unable to provide any documentation as to the baby's identity. The case is now being handled by Philippines National Bureau of Investigation's Anti-Human Trafficking Division.

An American woman was busted trying to smuggle a newborn baby out of the Philippines by hiding the child in her carry-on luggage, officials said.

Jennifer Erin Talbot, 43, attempted oto board a Delta flight to Detroit with the child from Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, NBC News reported.

During the security check, the 6-day-old baby was discovered inside her carry-on bag, the outlet reported.

“[The] infant was hidden in the oversized belt bag and [she] did not declare nor present to the immigration inspector during departure formalities,” Bureau of Immigration officials told CNN Philippines.

Talbot told officials she was the child’s aunt but had no documents to prove the relationship.

The National Bureau of Investigation said they will likely file child trafficking charges against her, NBC News reported.

A Utah woman who allegedly purchased a newborn from a teen mom in the Philippines and later tried to smuggle him out of the country in her hand luggage faces life in prison after being charged with human trafficking and child abuse.

Jennifer Erin Talbot, 42, is said to have arranged to adopt the six-day-old baby from the young mother who she first met online before attempting to fly home with the boy to the US on Wednesday.

Talbot, from Sandy, who is married with five children, was able to pass through the airport’s immigration counter without raising suspicions, however she was later intercepted at the gate by Delta Airlines personnel.

Clad in an orange detainee shirt and handcuffs Thursday, Talbot was paraded on national television in front of reporters as officials from the National Bureau of investigation announced her human trafficking charges.

In addition, officials said she will also be tried for child abuse and kidnapping with serious illegal detention.

Talbot kept her head low and appeared at times to be on the verge of tears throughout the parade and subsequent press conference.

She only broke her silence to say she was from Ohio, despite investigators listing her current home as an address in Utah.

The investigation bureau said Talbot presented an affidavit at the airport, allegedly from the baby’s mother, Maricris Cempron Dulap, giving consent for the baby to travel to the US, but it had not been signed by Dulap.

Officials said no government travel approval had been issued for the baby, prompting them to file human trafficking charges against Talbot.

She also allegedly told officials she was the boy's aunt, but failed to provide any documents to substantiate the claim.

I was almost cutting her some slack when I pictured a poor childless woman, so desperate to be a mother she went temporarily insane at the sight of an unwanted newborn & was willing to risk smuggling him home- but this broad was blessed with 5 children already?!- that’s just greedy!

Was she going to pull the contraband baby out for air on the flight or just hope for the best like people who smuggle rare birds and reptiles?. Except they expect some mortality and bring extras.
