Hello Everyone

Twenty one people - including eight women - are found guilty of being involved in one of Britain's worst-ever child sex rings

Reporting restrictions into the case were in place until the third trial concluded Victims were abused over almost a decade in the Walsall and Wolverhampton. This is the biggest investigation of its kind in West Midland Police's history
  • Seven women have been jailed for a total of 58 years as a paedophile gang that abused seven victims aged 12 and younger is smashed with 21 guilty convictions. In what is being seen as one of the biggest child sex abuse case of its kind in Britain, members of the paedophile gang have now been sentenced to a total of 145 years at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Seven victims, aged up to 12 years old, were abused over almost a decade in the Walsall and Wolverhampton areas.
In the biggest investigation of its kind in West Midland Police's history, three trials have taken place in the last 15 months, with the last trial having concluded The last trial concluded on Wednesday. The offending came to light in 2017 and a huge six-year probe called Operation Satchel began.
The sexual offences were first brought to the police's attention after one of the victims was admitted to hospital with a suspicious injury, and doctors had to make a safeguarding referral.

Reporting restrictions into the case were in place until the verdict of the third trial concluded today. The victims are now all adults.
And after several trials, the last of which concluded this month, 13 people have now been jailed - while one of the perpetrators was sentenced to life behind bars - with four others due to be sentenced on May 12.
The jail terms imposed today ranged from 28 months to life, while four of those convicted received non-custodial terms.
Deputy Chief Superintendent Paul Drover, who was head of investigation for West Midlands Police, said that a large team of officers investigated over more than half a decade.
They uncovered what he called 'systematic abuse that has to be some of the most shocking I have seen in my career'.

- Really poor sentence lengths (yes I know its UK...), although 4 remain to be sentenced
- The women get much less time - the usual inequality
- The "terribles" are all white British
- All are absolute mutants.

I hope I did this right!

mtg.

It's disheartening to see women involved in such a case. I can't help but wonder how many of them did what they did to children in order to please :( a man.
There may be an element of that mixed in, but the cruelty? It's all theirs.
They look mean, hard and filled with hate.

Any part of it that was to 'please their man' was for self-serving reasons. All of it.
They don't look one bit insecure or intimidatable.

100%. The women involved with this maniac https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...or-bandmate-Ian-Watkins-paedophile-abuse.html used that excuse "oh the man made me do it". Bullshit. They had a choice, the kids never had.

'Shocked everyone'

Joanne Jakymec, chief prosecutor with the Crown Prosecution Service, said the 21 offenders were guilty of "the most abhorrent catalogue of systematic sexual abuse".
"The scale, depravity and deeply disturbing nature of which is unlike anything I have seen during my time working for the CPS and has shocked everyone who has been involved in bringing them to justice," she said.
"The cruel abuse which they inflicted on the victims for years has caused them physical and extreme psychological harm, leaving them traumatised."

I hope the sentences stick and that they're not reduced on appeal.
The Unduly Lenient Sentence review may help increase the sentences, especially as they widened the offending scope few years back. You can see the reports here to see how many sentences were increased. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/unduly-lenient-sentence-annual-case-outcomes-data
More info here>
Anyone can ask for a sentence to be reviewed - you do not have to be involved in the case.
Only one person needs to ask for a sentence to be reviewed.

Thanks for all the info, @mind the gap! I looked at the 2021 information and was really surprised to see how many sentences were increased or leave refused. And there were even a few cases where the original sentence was what I guess is like our probation, but after review, the perps were sent to prison!

This is very interesting! We need something like the ULS over here, especially in child abuse cases. A lot of child abusers seem to get off with just a slap on the wrist.

Does a ring mean they all know each other? How do these scums find each other?
Media uses "Ring" a lot but AFAIK it doesn't mean they had a ringleader or that they all knew or knew of each other.
Their kids attend the same 'day care'.
Probably - but hard to say due to the protection of the childrens identities.

You are welcome. Its a learning curve for me too. Typically here they dish out sentences to run concurrently, but on ocassion ULS reviews change the sentences to run consecutively.

So if you're the convict, asking isn't going to help.

But if Joe Citizen asks...
