A father accidentally shot his 9-year-old son in the chest Friday during a road rage incident, investigators said.
The incident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on Friday, June 11, in Houston’s Fifth Ward in the eastern part of the city when the father, who was driving the vehicle with the 9-year-old boy inside at the time.
Concerned he was being followed, the father pulled out a gun. He got home without incident and as he attempted to holster the weapon, it discharged, striking the boy in the chest, investigators said.
The boy is currently in critical condition. He is expected to survive.
Police said the father, who is cooperating with investigators, will not face charges because it was an accident.
