Tyrone Terell Johnson, 42, was arrested Sunday night and faces several charges -- including murder and aggravated child abuse -- in the death of his girlfriend and her 10-year-old son, neither of who were not identified. Johnson ended up in handcuffs after calling 911 just before 7 p.m. Sunday to report he was being attacked inside a Tampa apartment, FOX13 Tampa reported.

Johnson told Hillsborough County deputies that he and his girlfriend got into a verbal argument over changing the channel to watch a football game and the incident escalated, court documents stated. He then began packing his belongings in the master bedroom when his girlfriend allegedly walked in and began “verbally berating” him.

“(She) allegedly was ‘tussling’ at (Johnson's) back. (He) claimed (she) pushed him off of his ‘knee roller’ and he sat down on the floor next to the bed,” the documents stated.

The boy, who is not Johnson’s son, then accused the 42-year-old of hitting his mother, FOX13 reported.

Johnson allegedly pushed the child, grabbed his handgun and began firing at his live-in girlfriend while she was holding a PlayStation. He shot and killed the child, who had walked out, when the boy came back into the bedroom, police said.

Investigators also found blood and signs that shots were fired inside the child’s bedroom.

So is the guy disabled or just nursing a leg injury or what? Sounds like this may have been a mutual domestic violence episode, perhaps even with the female as the primary aggressor, and this dude wasnt having it either on account of being a scumbag or on account of already being up shit creek physically. Shoulda had better aim, but it may not be as deliberately awful as it immediately sounds.

neither of who were not identified.

So both were identified?

Looks like he chased the boy into his bedroom and killed him.

Five days ago, the jurors found Tyrone Johnson guilty of second-degree murder for killing Stephanie Willis. They convicted him of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse for killing Stephanie’s son Ricky Willis, who went by Ryon.

On Wednesday, the jury voted that Johnson, now 45, should be put to death – rather than spend life in prison. In accordance with Florida law, it will now be up to Judge Christopher Sabella to consider the evidence and decide whether to approve the jury's sentencing recommendation.

Johnson had initially claimed he shot Stephanie and Ryon in self-defense. But – while examining the evidence – detectives ultimately determined Johnson was not under attack.

"Instead, detectives determined that Johnson and his girlfriend got into an argument over what the family would watch on TV, and during that confrontation, Johnson shot her multiple times," the state attorney's office wrote in a statement. "As this nightmare was unfolding, his girlfriend’s 10-year-old son tried to hide from Johnson. Terrified, he crawled under his bed to keep from being found."

Prosecutors say Johnson found Ryon's hiding spot and shot him repeatedly.

Johnson moved Ryon and Stephanie's bodies, investigators added, so he could "stage the scene" for his 911 call and false claim that he was acting in self-defense.

Stephanie's stepmother, Amber Hewitt, has maintained that the family wants Johnson sentenced to death.

"We, the family of Stephanie and Ryon, DO feel he deserves the death penalty. Prison is too good for him," she told 10 Tampa Bay in a statement on Nov. 7. "He murdered our daughter and grandson for absolutely no reason. And we pray the jury finds him guilty of first-degree murder and gives the sentence of death for the crimes he committed.”

The prosecution pointed to Ryon's young age and heinousness of the crimes as reasons why the jurors should favor the death penalty.

Judge Sabella will hold a hearing at a future date before making a final determination on whether to agree with the jury on the sentence for Johnson.

A Tampa judge sentenced Tyrone Terell Johnson to death on Monday, about a year after a jury found him guilty of the murders of his girlfriend and her 10-year-old son.

The crime occurred Oct. 21, 2018, at the apartment where Johnson was staying with Stephanie Willis and her son, Ricky Ryon Willis, in the Mariner’s Cove complex east of Tampa. Johnson called 911 that evening and said he’d been attacked. In a tearful interview with detectives, he said he and Stephanie Willis had started to argue over whether he could watch a football game.

He said she began to insult him, criticized him for sleeping all day when he was recovering from foot surgery, complained about their sex life and made a reference to Johnson’s son, who’d died by suicide. As the argument grew more heated, Johnson began to pack his things and made a video call to his father in South Carolina.

His father testified that he saw a hand come into view before he heard two gunshots. Johnson told detectives he grabbed a gun, a Glock 22 .40-caliber, when Stephanie Willis began to attack him, and began firing.

Evidence from the crime scene suggested that after shooting Stephanie Willis, Johnson went after her son. There was blood beneath the boy’s bed and two bullet holes in his bedroom wall, indicating the boy had tried to hide as he was shot.
