Two women are facing charges stemming from the alleged abuse of two young children, according to police
Sonya Stevenson, 27, and Shelby Pritchard, 27, were arrested on warrants last week following a Danbury police investigation into a child abuse report received by the state Department of Children and Families on Sept. 23.
The investigation centered on an Aug. 18 incident at a Danbury residence, where two young children were allegedly abused, according to court documents.

After being notified of the child abuse report, a warrant says police received a sworn written statement from a DCF investigator who said an anonymous witness provided video recordings showing Stevenson striking two children with a belt while Pritchard physically restrained them.

A review of the video by police confirmed the DCF investigator’s statement, according to the warrant, which says the children were both under the age of 10.
Police learned that the video was captured on an Ring camera mounted inside the home and someone — referred to in court documents as Witness #1 — reviewed the footage following a remark Stevenson made, according to the warrant for her arrest.

During an interview with police, the warrant says the witness “stated that a couple of weeks prior … Stevenson told him on a phone call that she had to ‘whip’ Jane Doe with a belt.”
The witness said the statement confused him, so he decided to check the interior camera recordings, according to the warrant. That’s when he said he found the video of Stevenson, Pritchard and the two children from Aug. 18.
When Danbury police accompanied the DCF investigator to interview Stevenson at her home on Sept. 23, the warrant for her arrest says she “became agitated,” but did speak of the video recordings and striking the children with the belt.

At one point during the interview, the warrant says Stevenson stated, “I’ll be damned if someone tells me I’m over-abusing [Jane Doe].”

After speaking with her attorney and being told to comply with DCF’s requests, the warrant says Stevenson “cooperated with DCF regarding temporary accommodations” for one of the children seen in the video.

That is obviously child discipline going way too far. Children should not live in a state of fear like this.

With that said, in 2002...

...then a few years later...
