WASHINGTON (TND) — A super PAC supporting former President Donald Trump has launched a “Biden-Mart” calculator to illustrate the effects of inflation on an average American’s trip to the grocery store.

On the site, launched by Make America Great Again Inc., users can select items from a list of household staples to compile a hypothetical grocery list. A calculator then compares prices for these items between the beginning of Biden’s presidency and now.

Checking off each item on the list shows an “under Trump” cost of $107.81 and an “under Biden” cost of $168.16. It amounts to a 55.98% increase.

The items listed include meat, fruit, and dairy products. Also included is a 64 oz container of ice cream, a jab at Biden’s love of the dessert. Data used for the site comes from the United States Department of Agriculture and compares prices from January 2021 when Biden first took office and compares it to prices from January 2024.

A new report from the Federal Trade Commission found that some grocers could be using inflation to up profit margins. Prices since 2021 have risen about 9.1% at major outlets like Walmart and Kroger, despite the consumer price index last month sitting at 3.2%.

In February, Kellogg's CEO Gary Pilnick suggested Americans struggling to put food on the table should eat cereal for dinner.

Interesting exercise but those figures are off regarding dairy.
They were never that cheap under 45, nor that expensive under Biden.

I see toilet paper isn't listed.
Oh right, massive shortages on that and baby formula during...
Hard to compare what wasn't available.

Bibles have gone way up though along with ugly sneakers. :spy:

Who can afford a box of good cereal? That's been expensive since forever and it's even more expensive now.

I can either buy a pound of ground beef or a box of cereal and if I'm feeding my family I choose the ground beef

Ground beef with 40 cent gravy mix, a diced onion and a cheap can of biscuits, dinner or a bowl of cereal.

Whoever said that was completely tone deaf with a Marie Antoinette, Let them eat cake, type of statement.

The democrats will tell you that the big companies are not paying their fair share and they'll look out for the little guy. Any tax placed on a business, the customers will end up paying. Look at your phone bill, 3 pages are the charges and activities for the month, then the next 6 pages are all the fees (taxes) you get to pay for that phone company. On the other side of the political field, the Republicans are bad for giving businesses tax breaks, cause the homeless guy on the street corner can give you a high paying job instead.

When trump was president, I got a letter from the power company stating that my rates were going down because the cost of generation went down. After Biden was elected, my rates have gone up a few times.

When Mr. Cubby was alive, he died May 27, 2014, our car insurance was $45.00 a month, with 3 cars, now just this month, it went up exactly $7.00 from $70.68 to $77.68 for one car, a half broke down 2002 car. Nobody needs to tell me that I'm better situated now than I was before, because I'm not and I know it.

A good alternative to store bought cereal is making your own, oats, nuts, little bit of honey or maple syrup.Granola is ridiculously easy to make and is a great breakfast or dinner, snack.

I was paying $29 a month for my 99 grand cherokee with Geico. Had been with them for 25 years. They wanted to raise my rate to $180 a month. Switched to State farm for $45 a month. They are already halfway to what Geico wanted to rape me for each month. No tickets or accidents, I shouldn't be charged that much. I'm looking at pay per mile insurance since my personal vehicle rarely gets used, I drive my semi truck 99% of the time. $15 a month and 2 cents a mile. It works out to what I was paying with Geico originally.

I'm with State Farm too, for at least the last 15 years, with absolutely nothing on my history. So I don't get it. I guess I need to switch to what you're talking about because my car is so old I never leave town with it. My friend has the type of policy where they monitor your driving thru your phone, but I don't like being controlled quite that closely. She drives at least 10mph under the speed limit all the time or else she gets dinged on her policy. I'm not in that big of hurry but com'on, now.

Are you getting the 'green' energy where you live?

Trying to be delicate but maybe it's time to drop Mr. Cubby from your auto insurance plan.

While looking at the history of dairy subsidies I noticed that in 1946 the cost of a half gallon of milk was 67 cents and the minimum wage was 40 cents. Thar was prior to the subsidy program started in 1949.

Even if you don't have food stamps, every single American is getting government assistance for their food.
If not for subsidies, ground beef would cost $30 a lb, and milk would be $9-$10 a half gallon.

That's a socialism I never hear anyone complain about.

A lot of agro products are subsidized-corn, soybeans, etc.

And we still waste hundreds of thousands of tons of food a year in this country no matter wwhat grocery costs are.

Did the wreck get him? Guess I shouldn't joke about grandpa sleeping while his passengers are screaming at the end anymore. I had no clue.

Yep the wreck got him, and we all feel sure he fell asleep. He had called about half hour before it happened and said he was going to stop at a store and get him a coke and walk around the parking lot for a bit to wake up, but it didn't work as well as he hoped. I'm just grateful there were people behind him who saw it because he went into a deep ditch and flipped over, he may not have been seen for a while otherwise.

You can joke, I'm not easily triggered by things like that, I wouldn't be here if I was. I think of him when I remember silly things he did or the funny stories he used to tell.

Some people want to be the center of attention and then want everybody around them to amend their behavior to not upset them, I'm not that person. I would rather everybody just be themselves and act normal, or at least as normal as they can, anyway. So tell your jokes @Josh P I don't need a safe space. :D

I guess now, it will be when I die, I want to die peacefully in my sleep like Cubby's hubby did. I've worked long ass night shifts, it is scary when you wake up in your bed and don't remember how you got there. I've also gone from St Louis to Columbus in the blink of an eye. It kinda makes me mad when someone gets a shift differential pay and the government taxes it. Uncle Sam wasn't sitting in the passenger seat shaking your shoulder on the ride home.

No president is all-powerful when it comes to the economy

Trump cut tax rates for power companies and that reduced power bills by 3-4 %.
Meanwhile, lower taxes mean lower tax revenue which means a higher deficit.

But that can be passed on to the next guy, right?

When Russia invaded Ukraine ìn 2022 it disrupted it's fossil fuel exportation and prices shot up all iver the world.
Not a damn thing to do with Biden. Blame Putin.

Is he an ineffective and bumbling fool or a powerful man who can alter the price of commodities worldwide?? Can't be both.

Costs per kwh in the world:
Denmark$0.53
Italy$0.46
Arizona $0.14
Rhode Island $0.30

Norway and Canada? Low costs because they have a lot f hydroelectric power.

At least we don't have a TV or radio tax!

I'm with State Farm too, for at least the last 15 years, with absolutely nothing on my history.

Increases were halted during covid, so then, boom!
Also, youre paying for the increased repair costs of those fancy new cars with computerized gadgets. Not enough mechanics with know- how so their salaries go up, the interruption of transportation of parts during covid.

My friend's fire insurance in Northern California for her home shot up from a reasonablish $3,000 a year to an eye-popping $20,000 this year.
All the wildfires.
She owns her home so she's dropping it.
But the people with mortgages? They have to pay those costs.
Imagine, you've had a 30 year, fixed rate mortgage payment of $330 for the last 22 years, then overnight, your home costs add up to $1,530??

@knockout probably has more insight on the PG&E and infrastructure failures and wildfires than I do.No such thing as safe anymore.

I know my rent has freaking doubled in 3 years.

My rent is only a few dollars off doubling in the last 6 years. I'm in rent subsidized housing for the over 55's. The rent was stable for a couple years after I got here and then we got a new management company and it's increased every year but this year, last year was 75.00, the other years it was like 15.00. When your income doesn't increase that much it's really hard to keep up. I'm thinking seriously about a part time job. I hate retail but every store in town needs help and unfortunately I'm seriously experienced at retail.

My 93 year old friend has said to me, it's hard planning on how much you need to retire. You don't know how long you'll live and other factors like inflation.

Here's the magic number. Good luck if you didn't start saving when you were born

The New Magic Number for Retirement Is $1.46 Million. Here’s What It Tells Us.

It would take $1.46 million to retire comfortably, according to a recent survey of 4,588 adults released Tuesday by financial-services company Northwestern Mutual. That is up from $1.27 million a year ago. And over $1 million more than the average survey participant’s nest egg.
While $1.46 million might make sense as a savings target for some higher-income households, most families with lower incomes likely need far less, she said.

Or after years in the service, being startled awake and then again when you reach for your weapon and it's not there!
