The questions in letters Menendez sent to Penceand Perry centered around Pence's cancelled trip to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's inauguration and Perry's trip in his place.
"Given your role as the leader of the official United States delegation to the inauguration, and the White House's recent release of evidence that President Trump requested that Ukraine's government investigate his domestic political opponent, your insight into the U.S. delegation's trip is of particular interest to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee," Menendez wrote in his letter to Perry.

State inspector general Steve Linick on Tuesday asked to meet with congressional staff from eight House and Senate committees to discuss and provide documents from State's acting legal adviser related to Ukraine, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Linick declined to comment to CNN as he entered the briefing just before 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Live updates: Trump lashes out at impeachment inquiry in fiery news conference
President Trump launched a broadside against Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.) at a joint news conference Wednesday afternoon with the president of Finland, after the House Intelligence Committee chairman warned the White House that “we’re not fooling around” on the impeachment inquiry.
The president’s attacks on Schiff came after Democrats announced that they would subpoena documents related to Trump’s July phone call with the leader of Ukraine.

Echoing the argument that House minority leader Kevin McCarthy made earlier today, the White House plans to inform House speaker Nancy Pelosi that Donald Trump and his team don’t have to cooperate with the impeachment investigation until congress votes to formally approve the inquiry.
Axios has the news from two sources familiar with the letter.
In response to McCarthy, Pelosi said that there is no constitutional requirement to vote on opening an impeachment inquiry. Pelosi and House intelligence committee chair Adam Schiff have also warned that officials who do not cooperate with their investigation could be charged with obstructing justice.
