Ransom Barefoot, the man who claims to be missing toddler Lonzie Barton's real father, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery Saturday morning after attacking a man at a bar in Macclenny, authorities said.
Just before 2 a.m. on Saturday, Barefoot went outside the patio of Mac's Liquors and went up to a group of men before he starts striking one in the head with his closed fist, according to an incident report from the Baker County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies found Elvis Myers, 58, beaten with blood coming from his nose and mouth, the report said.
Employees told deputies that Barefoot fled the area and when he was found by the city park, Barefoot reportedly told deputies that he was attacked him first and that he was just defending himself.
After checking the bar's surveillance video, deputies saw that Barefoot was not attacked or visibly provoked, the report said. Instead, Myers had his back to Barefoot, who struck him and kept hitting him after Myers had fallen to the ground.
Myers had to be taken to UF Health in Jacksonville due to his injuries.
Barefoot was checked over by first-responders, but refused to go to the hospital. He was arrested for the attack and taken to Baker County Detention Facility.
