The Ladies of the View suggested on Friday that migrants should be 'resettled elsewhere' because America is a 'massive country' while discussing their disappointment with Mayor Eric Adams's handling of the crisis faced by New York City.
NYC Mayor Eric Adams warned earlier this week that the 10,000 illegal asylum seekers arriving every month will 'destroy' the city.
It is a stark shift for the mayor, who promised while campaigning that NYC would remain a sanctuary city under an Adams administration, saying in 2021, 'We should protect our immigrants. Period.'
When discussing Adams's remarks, The View host Ana Navarro said migrants put 'tremendous stress' on cities, communities and the social services - adding: 'They need to be re-settled elsewhere''
Navarro's co-host Sara Haines agreed, saying: 'They need to be spread out'. Navarro is a Republican, while Haines describes herself as a moderate left-winger who grew up in a conservative household.
But many social media users slammed the women's remarks, and accused them of spouting a 'not in our backyard' attitude, when many other states are also struggling to cope with an influx of migrants.
The View host Joy Behar said the crisis is 'only gonna get worse with global warming and climate change cause people can't live in certain parts of this world.'
Navarro went on to compare the migrant crisis in the Big Apple to her experience as an immigrant in Miami during the 1980s.
She likened the current migration to New York City to the Mariel boatlift - when a mass emigration of Cubans travel from Cuba's Mariel Harbor to the United States between April 15 and October 31, 1980.
