A teacher in Texas who allegedly drove more than 1,500 miles for sex with someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl instead found himself being arrested by detectives in a child predator sting, according to police.
David Ortiz, 32, drove to Virginia after believing he had been speaking online to a teen girl there in December, the Fairfax County Police Department said in a news release.
On Jan. 10, he "indicated he was driving from Texas to Fairfax County to have an illicit meeting," the release alleges. He was arrested Friday by law enforcement officials awaiting his arrival.
The investigation revealed the suspect is a high school band teacher at United Independent School District in Laredo, police said. Texas authorities were reportedly notified.
Ortiz has reportedly been placed on leave from his position at the school.
