– A kitten in Meriden suffered an unthinkable, unbearably cruel death at the hands of an 18-year-old neighbor earlier this year. The seven-month-old kitten, Noodles, escaped from his owner’s apartment in late February and Carmello Roberts, a teen who lived next door, brutally ended his life.
According to court documents, Roberts “whacked the cat with a big knife…punched the cat with brass knuckles” and “smashed the cat’s head with a bowling ball,” and then texted his friends that the kitten’s eyes popped out, telling them that he “enjoyed it.”
The brutal incident resulted in a level D felony charge; Malicious wound kill animal. There is a second case against Roberts (N07M-CR24-0356745-S) with charges for Carrying a dangerous weapon, a Class E Felony and Interfere with an officer, a Class A Misdemeanor.Animal-Protection-Laws-of-Connecticut-2020-Animal-Legal-Defense-Fund

What Carmello Roberts did to this kitten is appalling and vicious! Desmond’s Army Animal Law Advocates in Connecticut tells Animal Victory “Roberts has been in and out of the system since he was a juvenile.”

If you are outraged and want to see him held accountable, please add your name to the petition today! It is critical that animal cruelty is recognized by the courts as a serious violent offense because of the strong link to violent crimes against humans.
Note: Roberts is still in custody; each charge has a $25,000 bail requirement with a minimum of 7 percent ($1750 for each charge).

According to an arrest warrant, the woman said her cat named Noodles had gone outside the night before.

The next day, the owner reported seeing a large amount of a blood-like substance outside her home, and she later found her cat dead, the warrant reads.

The woman who reported the incident told police that she suspected her neighbor, 18-year-old Carmello Roberts, killed her cat. He later admitted to the crime and provided gruesome details about the killing to minors living next door, but then claimed he was joking, according to the warrant.
The warrant states that Roberts allegedly used a bowling ball and brass knuckles to hurt the cat.

In Defense of Animals applauds the sentencing of Carmello Roberts who was arrested and charged with animal cruelty for brutally killing a neighbor’s cat named Noodles and boasting about the crime.
Last February, Noodles’ guardian called the police and told them that after a night away, they couldn't find him, and that they found large amounts of what they thought was blood behind their home. Noodles’ body was found when they looked over the fence. Police retrieved his body and discovered he had suffered severe torture before being killed.

Roberts was later arrested for the crime, and it came to light that he had boasted to his friends about the brutality and severity of the violence.
On December 17, Roberts, who was charged with a Class D felony under CGS § 53-247(b) Malicious Cruelty to Animals, was sentenced by Judge Richard Rubino to five years incarceration and three years of probation. He will serve one year, and the remaining term if he violates his probation.
“We’re pleased to see Roberts will serve time in prison for torturing and killing Noodles,” said Doll Stanley, In Defense of Animals’ Justice for Animals Senior Campaigner. “We encourage all courts and law enforcement officials to follow the good example set by Judge Rubino and District Attorney Doyle. When courts treat animal cruelty seriously and hold abusers accountable, they protect all members of society.”
