WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has stopped the Biden administration from enforcing a requirement that employees at large businesses be vaccinated against COVID-19 or undergo weekly testing and wear a mask on the job.

At the same time, the court is allowing the administration to proceed with a vaccine mandate for most health care workers in the U.S.

The court’s orders Thursday during a spike in coronavirus cases was a mixed bag for the administration’s efforts to boost the vaccination rate among Americans.

The court’s conservative majority concluded the administration overstepped its authority by seeking to impose the vaccine-or-test rule on U.S. businesses with at least 100 employees. [....]

The Supreme Court has stopped the Biden administration from enforcing a requirement that employees at large businesses be vaccinated against COVID-19 or undergo weekly testing and wear a mask on the job.

In a concurrent decision, the High Court approved vaccine mandates on most health care workers.

The decisions, which came during a spike of largely Omicron-variant COVID-19 cases across the US, came down six days after the justices heard arguments in both cases.

The first case dealt with the order from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration which would have mandated that businesses with at least 100 employees require their staff be vaccinated or undergo weekly testing.

Opponents to the rule argued the agency was overstepping its power. Scott Keller, who represented the National Federation of Independent Business, told the court that even if OSHA had issued just a masking mandate, the agency “doesn’t have the ability to set a nationwide COVID rule by emergency rule.”
The court’s conservative majority concluded the Biden administration overstepped its authority by seeking to impose the OSHA rule. More than 80 million people would have been affected.

“OSHA has never before imposed such a mandate. Nor has Congress. Indeed, although Congress has enacted significant legislation addressing the COVID–19 pandemic, it has declined to enact any measure similar to what OSHA has promulgated here,” the conservatives wrote in an unsigned opinion.

In dissent, the court’s three liberals — Justices Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor — argued that it was the court that was overreaching by substituting its judgment for that of health experts. “Acting outside of its competence and without legal basis, the Court displaces the judgments of the Government officials given the responsibility to respond to workplace health emergencies,” Justices Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor wrote in a joint dissent.

Just get rid of mandatory vaccines, masks and lockdowns altogether. They do more harm than good. If folks want to continue wearing masks and getting boosters, that should be their choice. CHOICE should be the operative word here. Those of us who don't want them should not have them shoved down our collective throats. There are lots of ways to naturally boost your immune system including regular exercise, healthy foods, vitamins (especially B vitamins, C, and D, which you can get either from whole milk or sunshine). And whatever you don't get from your diet you can take a multivitamin to get. And if you get sick, you can make quinine from the peels of lemons and grapefruits simmered for 2 hours in a pot with a tight fitting lid. The liquid can be strained and sipped with a little bit of honey (also a food that is a natural antibiotic and very healthy for you!). Early treatment when you get sick can keep you out of the hospital and save you a lot of time, money, and grief.

I don't have a single prescription and haven't had for at least 10 years. I also very rarely have any health issues, although I did contract COVID. As a result of that I've added a few more supplements to my regimen. Many natural remedies have been suppressed, because they DO want us dependent upon big Pharma and the for profit medical industry. That should make us all concerned.

Of course, I do understand why others may not want to employ my approach to health. We should all be free to handle our health in our own way.
