On Wednesday night, a child escaped from her home and ran to a nearby relative's house where she reported that her mother had hurt she and her siblings with a knife. She also told the relative her mother had possibly attempted to injure herself.
At around 10 p.m., deputies and Vicksburg Fire Department Emergency Services found Shana Smith, 36, holding a bloody knife. They also discovered the other two children with blood visible on them.
Deputies were able to disarm Smith and remove the children safely from the home.
The children, ages 7, 5 and 2, as well as the mother, were all taken to Merit Health River Region. The mother and two of the children were treated for injuries and released.
One child remains hospitalized with cuts to her throat, Sheriff Pace said. The child is expected to be OK.
When asked if there was a previous history of incidents with the family, Sheriff Pace said there are certain circumstances leading up to the incident that are currently being investigated.

The Child Protective Services Unit of the Mississippi Department of Human Services along with Warren County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
