Sentenced: Verphy Kudi, 18, Killed Her 20MO Girl By Leaving Her Home Alone For 6 Days

An 18-year-old mother accused of the manslaughter of her 20-month-old daughter left her alone in their flat for six days, a court heard today.

Verphy Kudi, 18, was charged after her daughter Asiah died at her flat in Brighton, East Sussex, in December last year.

Prosecuting, Jeremy King said CCTV had shown her leaving her flat on 5 December 2019 - her 18th birthday - and not returning until 11 December.

He said Asiah died while she was away.

The baby was rushed to Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton but was pronounced dead on arrival.

A postmortem and subsequent further forensic tests found baby Asiah died from neglect.

Kudi appeared via videolink, wrapping herself in a grey blanket and crying as the charge was read out.

No plea was entered today, and she was remanded in custody until 16 November, when she will appear at Lewes Crown Court.

No application was made for bail and chair of the bench and she was remanded in custody due to the nature and seriousness of the offence.

I can't even begin to imagine what it must cost to go and get her own hair done. I understand that it is not cheap for women of color to have their hair professionally done.

I saw a comment on an FB article about it. From the downstairs apartment. The tenant was destroyed. Saying how because she didn't hear a thing, not one cry, and feeling the incredible guilt of it happening right above her and she didn't know.
So many comments on why didn't anyone hear her scream, but she could have been in a cupboard or something.
And she definitely would have realised no one was coming to her cries, and she also would have got weak very quickly.

Verphy has been sending messages and police believe she may be in London.
PC James Huntley said: "Verphy is only 14 and we are growing concerned about her being away from home for so long.
"She is black and has very long braided black hair. When she left she took a large black bag and was wearing a black leather jacket.

A GIRL, 15, who travels around all of London has been missing for over a month.

Verphy Kudi, 15, was last seen in Rotherlithe, in Southwark, just before 8pm on January 4.

Police say Verphy could be anywhere in London and she also frequents Brighton.
She is black, around 5ft 6ins tall, of medium build with long braided black hair.

At the time of her disappearance she was wearing a black top, black jacket, black jeans and shiny black shoes.

Officers are increasingly concerned for her wellbeing and would urge anyone with information on her whereabouts to call police on 101 or Missing People on 116000.

You can tell it hasn't been brushed in a while. That's what's wrong with it. I would have never been out with my daughter's hair messed up while mine is all fresh. All she had to do was remove the hairballs, brush it, and put the balls back on. Or even just brush it with the balls still in to make it neat.
