Peter J. Lollobrigido, a 49-year-old from Sterling, attacked his wife, violating a protective order, with a hammer and left her with life-threatening injuries in an attack that took place on Sunday afternoon at the woman's apartment.

“Both the victim and the suspect were located inside the apartment,” the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Authorities responded to the scene after 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The violation of a protective order charge Lollobrigido faces appears to be a felony given the circumstances. Virginia law says that a person who violates a protective order while armed with a deadly weapon or who violates protective order by committing an assault is “guilty of a Class 6 felony”:

In addition to attempted murder, Lollobrigido is charged with aggravated malicious wounding and violating a protective order “following a domestic violence assault,” according to the press release.

“In order to be eligible for a protective order, you must have been, within a reasonable period of time, subjected to an act involving violence, force, or threat that results in bodily injury or places you in reasonable fear of death, sexual assault, or bodily injury,” says a Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services guide for victims of domestic violence.

As of Sunday, the sheriff’s office said that the victim was taken to the hospital and was listed in critical condition. It’s unclear at this time if the woman’s condition has improved.

The attempted murder suspect is being held without bond in Loudoun County.

On October 24, 2024, Peter James Lollobrigido, 52, appeared before the Loudoun County Circuit Court for sentencing on one count of First Degree Murder, one count of Aggravated Malicious Wounding, one count of Violating a Protective Order (resulting in serious injury), two counts of Abduction by Force or Intimidation, and two counts of Assault and Battery of a Family Member. Pursuant to the previously accepted Plea agreement, the Honorable Matthew P. Snow sentenced Lollobrigido to life in prison with all but 42 years suspended, for an active sentence of forty-two years in the Virginia Department of Corrections. If released from prison, Lollobrigido will be placed upon supervised probation for the rest of his life.
Lollobrigido began arguing with Regina Redman, his wife, while they were on the balcony of their apartment in Dulles on July 21, 2021. Regina left the balcony to return inside their home as she had “had enough.” Lollobrigido followed her inside, grabbed her by the shoulders and threw her against the wall. He then grabbed Regina from behind and placed his arm around her neck and started choking her. While doing this, Lollobrigido said, “you’re going to go to sleep, shut the **** up.” Regina felt like she was going to pass out but was able to grab one of her husband’s fingers, twisting and bending it back. This caused him to let go and she was able to get away.

Early the next morning, Regina was getting ready for work when Lollobrigido approached her in the kitchen and continued the argument from the night before. He threw Regina into the refrigerator, which caused the back of her head to strike it. He then repeatedly slammed her head into the countertop. Regina fell, and Lollobrigido dragged her across the floor of their residence, threw her onto the couch, and repeatedly slapped her in the face. Regina was eventually able to get her husband off of her and attempted to gather some personal items to leave the house. As she was doing so, Lollobrigido once again picked her up and threw her into the wall, slamming her head into it several times before she was able to break away from him, grab her things, and leave the apartment. Lollobrigido followed her out of the apartment and continued to argue with her as they walked towards the elevator. The attack continued once the elevator doors opened. Lollobrigido threw Regina into the elevator and repeatedly slammed her head into the wall of the elevator. Regina clung to a handrail inside the elevator to try to protect herself from being slammed against the wall again. Lollobrigido grabbed Regina with such force that the handrail she was holding onto broke loose from the elevator. He continued to slam her against the wall of the elevator until their teenaged son stopped him and Regina was finally able to escape.

Regina Redman took herself to the emergency room where a CAT scan and X-rays were completed, and law enforcement was notified. Warrants were taken out against Lollobrigido for the incidents that occurred on July 21 and 22, 2021, and he was arrested on those warrants on July 23, 2021.

Lollobrigido was released on an agreed, unsecured bond on July 30, 2021 (This agreement was made by the prior Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Administration. Commonwealth’s Attorney Bob Anderson took office on January 1, 2024, and it is office policy to not agree to bond in matters where injuries are sustained). On September 13, 2021, Regina obtained a protective order against Lollobrigido, which forbade him from contacting her, and provided her with exclusive possession to their apartment in Dulles.

On September 19, 2021, Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the same apartment in Dulles for a dispatched shooting call. Once on scene, deputies heard banging coming from Regina’s residence, and saw Lollobrigido exit the apartment with blood on his clothing. He was detained immediately. Inside the home, they found Regina on the floor of the hallway outside of the main bedroom suffering from multiple, severe injuries to her head and face. A blood covered hammer was leaning against the wall nearby. Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office detectives determined that when Lollobrigido arrived at the apartment, Regina was in bed with the covers over her head. After punching and kicking Regina in the bedroom, he left the bedroom and went to the kitchen where he retrieved a hammer from under the sink. Lollobrigido returned to the bedroom where he struck Regina in the head repeatedly with the hammer.

On September 26, 2021, Regina Redman died due to her injuries sustained on September 19, 2021.

On June 20, 2024, Peter James Lollobrigido entered into a plea agreement which included a set sentence.

My God! There shouldn't even be a slight chance of him getting out!
Where was the son on the night of the attack that killed his mother? I hope he didn't witness that one, too. My thoughts are with the kid. What a horrible situation having your father brutally murder your mother.

@Aedia, the son did try to intervene on behalf of his mother.

“He continued to slam her against the wall of the elevator until their teenaged son stopped him and Regina was finally able to escape.”
that was from the before she obtained a protective order against Lollobrigido, so i don't know where the son was when he actually killed his mom i sure hope he didn't witness that
