Deputies were called to a house, where they found the body of 75-year-old Clyde Shirley. Deputies and SLED agents found evidence that William Shirley, 35, had neglected to give basic care to his father, who was in poor health and depended on him for care, they said.

Clyde Shirley died on or around Feb. 25 and his son did not report his death, deputies said.

According to authorities, William Shirley put his father’s body in a closet in the home, where it remained until law enforcement arrived at the home on Sunday, March 14.

Deputies said William Shirley was a habitual drug user and used his father’s money to support his drug use. According to the arrest warrants, William Shirley allegedly hid his father’s body so that he could continue receiving Social Security funds from his account.

William Shirley is charged with abuse/knowing and willful neglect of a vulnerable adult resulting in death, and exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

You know he was using dads money on drugs long before he died.
How tragic. I sometimes worry about what's going to happen to me when I get too old since I don't, and unfortunately likely won't, have living children, have barely any family and no friends. I speak to you all on here more than I do most people in my real life. As a matter of fact, I think people here would wonder where my talkative ass went long before anyone would notice irl if I died today.
But then I read stories like this and realize being alone isn't the worst thing. The worst thing is having a child treat you like this. Of course I mean the parents who have been decent...I cannot imagine the suffering that would come with being neglected and abused by a child you loved, cared for, kissed their boo boos, spent forever getting their birthday parties ready, etc. How horrible that must be!

You can always talk to me @Aedia! I’m in the same situation as you.
Aww, that's really sweet of you. Made me smile ngl. Not that you're in that situation, but you know what I mean! Just so you know, the same goes for you and anyone else.
Sorry if I came off as woe-is-me, I just sometimes get reminded here that being alone is nowhere near as bad as being surrounded by wicked intent. When that comes from a child, it seems a million times worse.
