The desperate search for a 7-month-old southern California boy who was reported kidnapped has taken an even darker turn after cops said the baby’s mother had “inconsistencies” in her story and then stopped talking to detectives, authorities said.

Rebecca Haro made public pleas for son Emmanuel’s return after she claimed a strange man attacked her, knocking her unconscious and snatching the infant while she was changing his diaper in the family car outside a sporting goods store in Yucaipa in San Bernardino County,
“I was going to get the diaper and somebody said, ‘Hola,’ and I don’t remember anything since,” she recalled to KTLA in an interview, sporting a visible black eye. “I woke up here on the floor and I didn’t see Emmanuel.”

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene and searched for the infant, sending K-9 units to help track down the boy.

“Whoever took my son, please return him,” the boy’s father, Jake, told ABC7. “We just want him back. We won’t do anything to you. Just give us our son. Keep him safe, don’t hurt him, make sure you feed him and change him.”
“Investigators interviewed multiple individuals, including Emmanuel’s parents Jake and Rebecca Haro. During those interviews, Rebecca was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview,” the SBSD said in a statement Saturday morning.

As new details emerge in the case of an allegedly kidnapped 7-month-old boy in San Bernardino County, authorities have reportedly taken the couple’s two-year-old, searched the home with cadaver dogs, while an independent group devoted to finding missing kids has withdrawn its offered reward and suspended its search efforts.
On Aug. 14, Rebecca Haro, the boy’s mother, initially told investigators that she left her husband, Jake Mitchell Haro, and their other two children at a local park where one of the boys was having football practice to go purchase a mouthguard for him.

“I came over here and parked right on the edge,” she told KTLA. “When I was driving over, I smelled the baby had went to the restroom, so I said, ‘Don’t worry, we are going to change you.’”
Sheriff’s investigators said that when confronted with inconsistencies in her story, Rebecca refused to continue speaking to authorities. The child’s grandmother, who believes the couple is innocent, said investigators asked Rebecca to take a lie detector test but that her husband Jake refused the request until they had a lawyer present.
Riverside County Superior Court records show that Jake Mitchell Haro has a June 2023 felony conviction for child cruelty from a 2018 arrest in Hemet, The Orange County Register reported.
He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 48 months of probation and is scheduled to appear in court in early September for an alleged probation violation.

While friends and family launched a search effort Friday night, authorities on Saturday reportedly searched the couple’s Cabazon home and brought along cadaver dogs.

I see nothing wrong with wanting a lawyer present but the prior conviction for child cruelty is concerning.

Also maybe not a kind thought but the baby looks disabled and not a child anyone would want to kidnap.

Thank you for posting about this story. This poor baby has been missing since Thursday night, August 15, 2025. I know that after missing for more than 48 hours, we are no longer searching for a living baby, we are looking for a body...

True Crime Mama

The following was shared by my friend Abby Blabby- True Crime & News. Please be sure to give her a follow!

“On October 18, 2018, Jake Haro and Vanessa Avina’s 10-week-old daughter was admitted to Hemet Valley Hospital after she was severely beaten. She barely survived.

I was contacted by Avina’s cousin, who adopted her and has taken care of her everyday since the brutal attack. Promise Faith, formerly Carolina Rose, turned 7 on July 31st.

As a result of what was done to Promise, she has to breathe using a tracheostomy tube, needing frequent suctioning so she doesn’t suffocate on her own mucus. She is blind. She cannot walk. She cannot talk. She only has 3% of brain function left and is 100% dependent on all cares.

In addition to adopting their daughter, the cousin and her husband also adopted Jake and Vanessa’s son, Carlos, formerly Jake Mitchell Haro II. Carlos, who is 8 years old, was born with fetal alcohol syndrome.
Vanessa received numerous DUI’s while pregnant with Promise, but miraculously, she was born healthy. All of her ailments began after she was beaten and abused.

How can someone almost MURDER their own baby and not go prison for it?? And then have more kids that aren’t immediately taken by CPS?

After hearing the details of what he did to his daughter, I’m convinced more than ever that baby Emmanuel was never kidnapped and that Jake and Rebecca Haro know EXACTLY where he is and what happened!

And I want to add that I think the cousin and her husband are amazing, wonderful people!!!

I would not be surprised if Emmanuel has not lready been shaken because like I said he does not look well.

Also the mother's brother was convicted to murdering his girlfriend.

Let me say this I don't care if she was getting her ass beat... If she knew her baby was being abused she could have at some point dropped the child off at a fire station, police station or hospital and went back to the abusive prick.

While we can not know for sure who injured the baby girl in 2018 - let us put the blame on him and ask why would she get pregnant again by this man?

Yes we should have sympathy for victims of domestic violence but when they fail to protect their children they still need to be held accountable.

So just some background this man has had three wives -

The first wife - he has an 8-year-old son by and she has stated he was abusive.

The second wife, Jessica Avino, is the mother of the little girl he left catastrophically disabled

This child and the 8-year-old boy were adopted by a cousin..

The third wife, Rebecca Haro, knowing married a man who almost killed a ten-month-old baby.

All this abuser got was 180 days and probation for destroying his daughter's life.

WTF

Authorities have confirmed that both parents have been arrested in the disappearance of their 7-month-old son, Emmanuel Haro, in San Bernardino County on Friday morning.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the arrests of Jake and Rebecca Haro following an apparent operation at the family’s home in Cabazon. Emmanuel still has not been found.

“This morning, detectives from the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail and Specialized Enforcement Division arrested the parents at their residence in Cabazon for PC 187 – Murder,” wrote SBSD in an update on X. “Investigators will continue their search for seven-month-old Emmanuel Haro.”

As the search for the body of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro continues, his mother, Rebecca Haro, spoke out from jail in an exclusive interview with the Southern California News Group.
Rebecca, arrested alongside her husband Jake Haro on suspicion of murder, maintains that her baby was kidnapped.

"I want to be out looking for my baby," Haro said. "I will not give up. I will not give up on my baby."

She also spoke about her husband saying, "He's a good dad. He would never hurt a baby."

He might have been born healthy but in the picture above he looks like he was already a victim of being shaken.

California officials investigating the murder of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro revealed disturbing new details in the case Tuesday as the infant’s parents appeared in court to face murder charges.
Prosecutors believe Haro had been dead for up to nine days before his mother, Rebecca, reported that he was abducted outside a sporting goods store in Yucaipa, Calif., according to newly released court documents viewed by KTLA.

Investigators painted a murky timeline of the still-missing child’s fate, claiming the boy — believed to be dead — could have been killed sometime between Aug. 5 and Aug. 14, when the phony kidnapping took place.
The 41-year-old mother filed a report claiming she was attacked by a strange man outside the Big 5 Sporting Goods store as she changed her son’s diaper in the family car out in the parking lot.

Authorities in the Inland Empire say the death of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro could have been prevented if the boy’s father had been held in prison for a previous child abuse case.
A day after the infant’s parents, Jake Haro, 32, and Rebecca Haro, 41, were charged in the child’s murder, Riverside County Dist. Atty. Michael Hestrin joined the sheriffs of Riverside and San Bernardino counties to discuss the case, which has gained notoriety among the true crime mystery crowd.

They did not provide significant details about the case, but said they believe they know where Emmanuel’s remains are located and suggested that had Jake Haro been imprisoned, Emmanuel would still be alive.
According to court records, Haro was arrested for abusing a child in 2018 during a previous marriage. He pleaded guilty in 2023 and was given jail time, probation and ordered to participate in a work release program and take classes for child batterers, records show. He was eligible for a four-year prison sentence, but the judge in the case suspended that term. He completed the required programs and submitted proof to the court in May of this year, according to the case minutes.
At the time he was sentenced, prosecutors sought prison time, Hestrin said.

Instead, the judge gave Jake Haro an “extra break,” according to Hestrin.

“I will say that it was an outrageous error in judgment by this judge. I don’t have any problems saying that,” Hestrin said. “If that judge had done his job as he should have done, Emmanuel would be alive today. That’s a shame and it’s an outrage. And I hate to say that, but when our criminal justice system breaks down I’m just going to say it, it broke down.”
Both San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco echoed Hestrin’s criticism, with Dicus saying Haro was an “experienced child abuser” and Bianco saying the crime was “preventable in numerous ways.”
According to a police officer affidavit from the 2018 case, Haro claimed he dropped his baby in a sink while giving her a bath, breaking several bones. But nurses who later examined the child concluded the injuries didn’t match his story.

Hestrin said that Jake Haro’s daughter is now bedridden due to her injuries.

In the current case, investigators believe Emmanuel was severely abused for an extended period of time before his death. Authorities now have a strong lead on where to find his body, but did not disclose any additional details about the ongoing search.

The father of missing 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro has reportedly confessed to killing the child and putting his body in a trash can in their home, NewsNation’s Brian Entin reports.

Jake Haro revealed that information to a fellow inmate who was actually an undercover informant, Entin said, a technique known as using a Perkins informant.

That came after Haro told police he rolled over in bed and accidentally killed the child before burying the body, Entin added.

Rebecca Haro is going to use a battered woman defense - just watch.

Jake Haro passed his court-ordered child abuse classes with flying colors — with counselors praising his parenting skills and deeming him a low risk to reoffend — just months before he was charged with torturing his 7-month-old son Emmanuel to death, The Post can reveal.
Haro was ordered to attend the program in lieu of prison time after he savagely beat his 10-week-old daughter Carolina, leaving the little girl disabled for life.
Two counselors working with Jake in the program — run by PHS Counseling in Moreno Valley, Calif. — wrote glowing comments about his progress and behavior on two reports filed in Jake’s earlier criminal abuse case.
Counselor Steven DeHay wrote on a July 18, 2024 report that during the course Jake was “attentive, polite, and appropriately interactive in class with other members and facilitators.”
“He appears to have gained self-insight and awareness into his parenting style,” the report went on. “He appears to have benefited from this mandated class/program.”

DeHay gave Jake top marks — 7 out of 7 — for his attitude and and under the category of “child abuse,” while giving him 5s and 6s on four other categories including “child welfare” and “parenting skills.”
Another counselor, Mirna Johnson, wrote an earlier Nov. 20, 2023 report, giving Jake with passing marks across all six criteria while gushing about his “progress” in the course.

“Mr. Haro reported that his discipline consists of logical and natural consequences, and he offers limited choices to teach decision making and democracy,” Johnson wrote. “Mr. Haro shared that his children are motivated by positive reinforcement and that his limits are stable and only increase with the maturity of his children.”
She deemed the likelihood that Jake would abuse another child as “low,” the report shows.

Bio-parents can be very good actors. After what Haro did to his daughter he should have never been allowed to have custody of any children.

Dehay and Mirna need to be fired. Mirna use fancy words to say this POS knows all the right things to say.

I would have some tell me all the right things but their masks do slip - you just have to be attentive.

I do not get how any worker could not look at that baby and not see that they are being shook.

Even if this guy had realized the error of his ways (which I don't believe he did) counseling is not ongoing with real life stressors. I think in cases like this, if the person is sentenced to counseling they should be made to carry a crying baby with them, like high school students used to do, lets see how long it takes him to slam the doll against a wall because it won't shut up.

I do think the judge made a serious error in judgment!! He should have gone on to say he should take classes but he should not, never ever have custody of any minor child or be near any minor child! He should have to be financially responsible for the medical care of the child he damaged for life!! The wife saying he would never hurt a child!! What about the child he severely beat!!?? I agree with you all, the photos of the little boy, he looks like he had FAS and has already been assaulted! This man should have been in prison!! Fatal error in judgment, he should not have been allowed near minor children! Should have been in prison!

Yup sure he should of taken parenting classes...in PRISON! I am just floored that he left a baby disabled FOR LIFE and all's he got was some parenting classes?! In what sane and rational universe does a punishment like some parenting classes equate to a justifiable punishment for savagely beating his 10mo leaving her disabled for life? In my world view that makes no sense and is a serious miscarriage of justice. Now another poor baby has suffered....

The father of a 7-month-old boy missing in Southern California pleaded guilty to second-degree murder of his son after a monthslong investigation that has failed to locate the child’s remains.

Jake Haro on Thursday also pleaded guilty to assault on a child under 8 that results in death, paralysis or a comatose state, and a misdemeanor count of filing a false report.

Haro, 32, and his wife Rebecca Haro, 41, attracted national attention this summer after reporting their son Emmanuel Haro had been kidnapped outside a store in San Bernardino County on Aug. 14.
In 2023, Jake Haro pleaded guilty in open court to abusing another one of his children in 2018. The girl suffered rib and skull fractures, a brain hemorrhage and other injuries.

Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin said the prosecution asked the judge to sentence Haro to prison at that time, but instead he was allowed to serve 180 days of work release, plus probation.

Did he just create these poor kids to have living creatures he had the power to make suffer? He probably pulled the wings off flies and tortured animals as a kid! But his sperm and egg donor didn't give a shit and turned a blind eye to the monster they were creating.
