Sentenced: Sarah Hazledine Accused Of Raping 3YO At Spearfish Day Care

Sarah Hazledine, 48, allegedly raped a 3-year-old in August 2024, while she worked as a teacher at a Spearfish day care in South Dakota.

She has been charged with first-degree rape of a minor under the age of 13 and sexual contact with a minor under the age of 16. Court documents indicate both charges stem from an incident involving the same alleged victim.

A woman who claims she has been friends with Hazledine for decades said the allegations are false. She said dozens of people have offered to be a character witness for Hazledine.

Hazledine, through her attorney Kim Kinney, pleaded no contest to a single misdemeanor count of contributing to the abuse, neglect, or delinquency of a minor.

Hazledine was ordered to pay $500 in fines and court fees, and she received a suspended jail sentence, on the condition that she has no contact with the victim or their family, that she does not break any laws for 360 days, and that she submits to a psychosexual evaluation.

Hazledine can no longer work with children under the conditions of her suspended sentence.

Hazledine was charged with first-degree rape of a child under 13 and sexual contact with a child under 16. Those charges were dropped Nov. 24 — one week before her trial was set to begin.
