Qwonn Walls, 19, allegedly shot another man over an argument about a Wi-Fi password Friday afternoon has been arrested.

A police report said just before 2 p.m. Friday, officers found a shooting victim on the lawn outside a building at 2111 W. White St. The victim, 22, told police that he had gotten into an argument with Walls after refusing to give him a Wi-Fi password. Their dispute escalated to a physical fight, and when the victim saw Walls reportedly reach into his waistband, the victim retreated to his own apartment.
After a short time, the victim opened his door and Walls allegedly shot him in the right thigh. He fled and was gone by the time police arrived.

They found him Saturday morning; initially, he gave them a false name.

He had a bag that contained a Taurus firearm. He declined to answer questions from police about the Friday shooting.

A Champaign man was sentenced to six years in prison for shooting another person in 2022 after an argument over a Wi-Fi password.
Qwonn C. Walls, 20, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated battery with a firearm.

Walls was at a residence on Sept. 30, 2022, when he got into an argument with another person over the use of a Wi-Fi password, Assistant State's Attorney Eileen Keeley said.

Walls eventually shot the other person. Police arrived at the residence around 2 p.m. that day and found the then-22-year-old shooting victim on the lawn outside the building, a police report said. Walls was gone by the time police arrived.

The victim was transported to a hospital, where he received treatment. He apparently told police that the argument began after he refused to give Walls a Wi-Fi password.

The dispute escalated to a physical fight, and when the victim saw Walls reach into his waistband, the victim retreated to his own apartment, he told police. After a short time, the victim reportedly reopened his door, and Walls shot him.
Police arrested Walls on Oct. 1, 2022, and found a Taurus handgun on his person, which they determined was the firearm used to shoot the victim.

Walls must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence. He had credit for 557 days already served in jail.
