WEST HAVEN -- A suspect in a threatening case told police that "you'll have to kill me'' because he would not go back to jail, a department spokesman said.

Michael Greenspun, 23, of Park Street, had gone to a Washington Avenue home Monday and tried to fight another man there over a woman, Sgt. David Tammaro said.
When the man refused to fight him, Greenspun brandished a knife, police said.

The suspect left and was located a short time later on Savin Avenue, Tammaro said. When officers tried to take him into custody, he waved the knife at them, Tammaro said. Greenspun is a convicted felon who has been arrested several times, Tammaro said. The suspect said that he would not go back to jail, and that police would have to kill him first, police said.

When officers instead threatened to use their electonic stun guns, Greenspun laid down and was handcuffed. He was charged with reckless endangerment, threatening, interfering with police, breach of peace and refusal to be fingerprinted, the incident report states. He was held on bond.
