A 26-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a woman found earlier this month in a body of water in the San Marco neighborhood, police announced Friday.

Police said Dedric Jaquan Rashan Wesley was taken into custody without incident with assistance from the SWAT unit.

Family members have identified the woman who was killed as 23-year-old Beverly Febres, who left behind two sons, ages 1 and 3.
Febres’ sister told News4JAX after the arrest that the family doesn’t know Wesley but that her sister’s friends told the family she was dating him. They don’t know why he would want to hurt her. Febres’ family said Wesley is not the father of her two children.

The sister said the family learned of his arrest on Thursday.

Police said that arrest happened after an interview between Wesley and detectives, who began investigating Febres’ homicide earlier this month.
Investigators announced Friday that a myriad of evidence was discovered at the scene and the victim’s vehicle was later discovered abandoned. They said more evidence in that vehicle led them to establish Wesley as a person of interest, and then later as the prime suspect.

Loved ones told News4JAX that Febres was a dedicated and hardworking mother who would do anything for her children.

“Very funny, very lovely mother, lovely sister, very lovely daughter,” said Julian Buonomo, a friend of the family. “You couldn’t have a serious conversation because she would make a joke out of everything. That’s how I want to remember her.”

Her sister said Febres worked for Amazon and was looking into going into the military.

“She was a hard worker always looking for the best for her family, the whole family,” Buonomo said. “Everything she did for her kids.”

What a Beautiful young woman and such a ugly devil scum she went for. Poor girl
@Satanica

Thank you,

I wish all women knew they're really fucking worth.

Sometimes it is better to be alone and to love yourself.
right I agree with you one hundred I love being alone with no kids or man my whole life and I’m 35 now haha I can be totally selfish. I can only sleep in a bed alone so having a partner wouldn’t work unless we had separate beds like they did in the 1900s then I may think about a relationship

The man who confessed to killing Beverly Febres, the Jacksonville mother who was found dead floating in Marco Lake in July 2022, has changed his plea to guilty and was sentenced Monday.

Kamaree Singleton, 23, was the second suspect arrested for the Febres' murder. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office originally arrested the wrong man, Febres' boyfriend, Dedris Wesley.
Charges against Wesley were dropped when an investigation led police to Singleton, who confessed to the murder.
Police records say that before her death, Singleton got into a fight with Wesley. Febres intervened and shot at Singleton, and the bullet grazed him "on the side," according to an arrest report.

A witness who helped dispose of her body told police that "a short time later, Febres returned to Singleton's house and Singleton shot and killed Febres."
Singleton shot Febres in the head twice, killing her. He then requested help dumping her body into Marco Lake, a private lake just blocks from San Marco Square.

Febres was found dead July 12, 2022. Her car was found days later on Blackard Road in Arlington with the passenger seat “covered in blood," according to police.

After Singleton's arrest and confession, he was found incompetent to stand trial due to mental health concerns. After treatment, he was deemed competent again and pleaded not guilty.
