The death of a 7-month-old Queens infant has been deemed a homicide, nearly six months after the boy’s death in October 2020, the NYPD said Wednesday.
Police were originally called to the baby’s Liberty Avenue home, in Jamaica, just before 10 p.m. on Oct. 30. They arrived to find the infant unconscious and unresponsive, with no obvious signs of physical injury, authorities said.
An NYPD spokesperson on Wednesday said the child’s mother made the 911 call.
EMS responded and transported the baby to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities identified the boy as Kameri Garriques.
Nearly six months later, the medical examiner believes the cause of the boy’s death was possibly malnutrition, authorities said.
Queens baby's death deemed homicide 6 months later
JAMAICA, Queens — The death of a 7-month-old Queens infant has been deemed a homicide, nearly six months after the boy’s death in October 2020, the NYPD said Wednesday. Police were originally…
The mother of a 7-month-old boy whose death is suspected to be the result of malnutrition admitted to The Post on Wednesday that she fed him only vegan food — claiming that she was following the Bible and wasn’t “going to carry a fat-ass child.”
The woman — who identified herself only as Carla, 28 — held up a copy of the holy book and slapped it with her hand to explain why she imposed the highly restrictive diet on her newborn.
“Vegan means that everything that’s in this Bible,” she said during an interview in her family’s home in St. Albans, Queens.
“I’m very wise. I’m very smart and I read my Bible.”
Carla also insisted that her baby wasn’t underweight and interrupted when her mom said, “I have to be honest with you, he was small.”
“At the end of the day, he was vegan,” Carla said.
“I’m a small person. I’m 100 pounds. I’m not a fat-ass woman where I’m going to carry a fat-ass child.”
The boy, Kameri Garriques, was pronounced dead after being found unconscious and unresponsive when cops responded to a 911 call on Oct. 30, according to the NYPD.
Early Wednesday, the NYPD said that the case had been ruled a homicide by the Medical Examiner’s Office and that Kameri is suspected to have been malnourished.
No one has been charged but law-enforcement sources said his mom is a person of interest and identified her as Carla Garriques, 28.

During her interview with The Post, Carla pointed to a shelf as she described how Kameri had been cremated.
“My son’s ashes in right there,” she said.
Carla also volunteered that she has three other children, including a 2-year-old daughter who was removed by authorities following Kameri’s death.
“It was fifteen cops against me…They took my daughter in November, they took her a week after,” she said.
“I tried to get away and they took my daughter because they felt like my daughter was at risk because of the fact that my son died.”
“Why are they trying to figure out what God does?” she added.
In addition to citing the Bible, Carla said Kameri “was fed vegan because all the formulas — I tried six different formulas, he was catching thrush every time.”
“He was not fed with bullsh–t. He was not fed with formula where it has chemicals in it,” she said.
Carla also said she never had Kameri vaccinated against childhood diseases.
At several points, Carla interrupted her mom, who identified herself as Corane, 65, and said Carla fed Kameri “fruits and vegetables” crushed with boiled potatoes.”
Carlo also spoke in a disjointed fashion and repeatedly ranted about her religious beliefs.
“She is going through something,” her mom said quietly.
