A couple in Marion County is facing child abuse and neglect charges after an infant was taken to the emergency room with a fractured skull and bruises on her face.
Marion County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jacob Bratt, 24, and Christi Homer, 19, on Friday, a month after the baby was injured. Bratt was charged with aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm, and child neglect. Homer was charged with child neglect.
According to the arrest report, Bratt told detectives that while he was holding the baby the morning of March 26, he tripped on his cats and landed on top of the baby. Homer returned home about an hour later. The baby wasn’t taken to the hospital until that evening.
Staff at the hospital suspected the baby’s injuries were the result of abuse and contacted the sheriff’s office. A nurse told deputies the baby had a fracture to the back of the skull, a retinal hemorrhage, and bruises on her chin, cheek, and jaw.
Bratt explained around the time of the injury, he was angry with Homer for leaving him home with the baby while she went to spend time with another man. Homer and Bratt are in an open relationship.
He told detectives he has multiple personalities, Jack and Jake. Sometimes, he cannot “see” what the other personality does.
