Payton McCarty, 26, was indicted on felony murder, vehicular homicide, aggravated assault and attempted kidnapping, according to officials with the Knoxville Police Department.

Officers with the department responded to a call on June 16 around 2:45 a.m. when they found a pregnant 27-year-old woman in the street with life-threatening injuries, police said.

After investigating, officers determined that a domestic dispute took place, and McCarty, the father of the unborn child, “either struck or dragged the victim with his car and then fled the scene.”

The woman was taken to the hospital where her unborn child died. She is receiving treatment.

He should be satisfied now, since the baby is dead. I assume that's where his issues were centered. Kewpie doll looking asshole. I hope she will never forgive him for what he has done and that she will make better choices in men in the future.

A 27-year-old Knoxville man was sentenced to four years in prison in the 2022 death of his unborn child.
A Knox County Criminal Court jury convicted Payton B. McCarty in September of vehicular homicide. They declined to find him guilty of murder, however.

Prosecutors Sean Roberts and Leland Price asked the judge to sentence McCarty to the upper range of punishment, arguing he had a lengthy misdemeanor conviction history and that his victim -- the fetus -- was particularly vulnerable.
McCarty argued in June 2022 with the baby's mother, Jashara Mitchell, outside her apartment on Atlantic Avenue. Her clothing became caught in his pickup door.
He drove off, dragging Mitchell with him. Prosecutors argued he sped off deliberately, intent on hurting her.

She ended up lying in the middle of Atlantic, seriously injured. McCarty didn't return, and he didn't call 911 to get her help, the state said.
The fetus died. McCarty and Mitchell have another child together, testimony showed.
