18-year-old Quintin Michael is facing charges while a a juvenile boy potentially facing “irreversible” brain damage after a beating over a THC vape cartridge, according to Allen Superior Court documents.

"Mansfield said in court documents he invited three people – one being the boy who ended up at the hospital – to his apartment but became angry when a vape cartridge went missing.

He then demanded everyone in the apartment to empty their pockets and asked them to leave, Mansfield said in court documents. At some point, Mansfield told detectives, he noticed the boy take something out of his sock and throw it toward a laundry basket.

Mansfield said that’s when he saw the vape cartridge on top of the basket – which he claimed to have already checked multiple times without finding it, according to court documents."

Mansfield admitted in court documents to then exchanging words with the boy. He claimed “the fight started” but he blacked out, according to court documents. He also said in his interview he may have hit the boy five or six times while the boy covered his head, court documents said."

Mansfield and the two other guests in the home brought the juvenile to the hospital where they spoke with police.

A doctor at the hospital told investigators the boy who was battered suffered from a critical and traumatic brain injury with irreversible damage, court documents said. The doctor also said in court documents he was unsure if the boy would live through the night.

This sad story reminds me of a similar tragedy that happened 20 years ago at my highschool over marijuana. The house was literally across the street. One of my best friends was the primary witness because he was in the room when it happened. Two boys fighting over a dime sack with their lives ahead of them. Sad this trauma is still playing on repeat it seems..

CARROLLTON – The deaths of two teenagers found shot Monday near a backyard shed were ruled a homicide and suicide Wednesday by the Dallas County medical examiner.

Police said David Lee Ross, 18, accidentally shot Asa Phillips, 17, in the forehead and then turned the gun on himself when he realized his friend was dead.

Mr. Ross brought a stolen .380 automatic handgun to the shed in the 2200 block of Crosby Road, where he was going to join three friends, said Sgt. David Sponhour, Carrollton police spokesman.

Mr. Ross was playing with the weapon when it accidentally fired.

"They all ran off after the first guy was shot," Sgt. Sponhour said.

But Mr. Ross came back a few minutes later, presumably to check on Mr. Phillips, he said. When he discovered his friend was dead, Mr. Ross shot himself in the head.

"Everybody was screwing up," Sgt. Sponhour said. "They shouldn't have been playing with that gun."

Mr. Phillips was a freshman at R.L. Turner High School, and Mr. Ross attended the school until two years ago, said Rachel Cruthirds, spokeswoman for the Carrollton-Farmers Branch school district.

A passer-by heard the gunshots and told the woman who lives at the home in the quiet, older neighborhood, southwest of Belt Line Road and Josey Lane.

Pamela Graves and her husband have been neighbors with the Ross family for 12 years. "He was a very, very nice boy," she said. "Very sweet and likable. This is very sad. We have known him since he was 6 years old."

Police are still trying to determine where the weapon came from.
