Juan Mendez, 36, was charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine, maintaining a drug trafficking place, and two counts of neglecting a child after the drug bust in a department store parking lot in De Pere on Thursday.
According to the criminal complaint, police worked with a confidential source to buy two kilograms of cocaine from Mendez in a $54,000 deal. Evidence seized included two bricks of cocaine.

Two children were in Mendez’s vehicle when it was stopped by police. The complaint does not state the relationship between Mendez and the children, but the last initial for both is “M.”
“JUAN MENDEZ brought A.M. (a four year old) and M.A.M-M. (a 16 year old) with him when he was going to sell 2 kilograms of cocaine. This large amount of cocaine carries exchanged a danger to not only the parties involved but all of those present. A four-year-old would be in extreme danger during the drug deal,” the complaint states.

The teen was also arrested, while Child Protective Services took custody of the 4-year-old.

It will be hard to prove that the 16-year old knew about and had a stake in the drug deal. S/he may just have been asked to come along to "look after" the 4-year old. As a minor, it would be grossly unjust for this teen to be charged with anything unless it can be proven that s/he was an active participant.

As for Mendez, make him snort every last milligram of the coke. If he survives, then they can discuss his future.
