A St. Clair County man was sentenced Thursday to 14 years in prison in the 2016 death of his infant son.

Joel B. Bundt, 25, of O'Fallon, Ill., pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter Thursday before sentencing.

Bundt was originally charged with first-degree murder, but prosecutors reduced the charge as part of a plea agreement.

Authorities said Bundt inflicted a traumatic brain injury on his infant son, Quinten Finnley David in the summer of 2016. The child died on July 18, 2016, according to an obituary. He was 54 days old.

The infant spent several weeks getting treatment at St. Louis Children's Hospital before his death. Medical staff at the hospital alerted the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services to the injury, an O'Fallon police spokesman said in 2016.
