Sentenced: Foster Mom Left 3YO In The Care Of 15YO Since She Planned To Be "Gone All Night"

A 15-year-old boy is charged with maiming a little girl he was left to baby-sit.

Dusty Hawkins and her siblings were in foster care June 23 when she suffered severe burns.

According to a search warrant, on the night of her injuries the girl's foster mother left Dusty and her siblings with her nephew since she planned on being "gone all night."

It wasn't until the next morning that she found the child on the floor in critical condition.

Court documents reveal how the toddler was allegedly injured while in the care of the woman's nephew.

According to the teen he went to bathe Dusty after she, "pooped all over herself."

He said he filled the bathtub with "very hot water" and then left to retrieve a bottle of bleach. He said when he returned he found Dusty head first inside the bathtub.

He said while she was red he thought she was okay "because her skin wasn't coming off."

And while he claims it was all an accident, the girl's foster mother told police she didn't believe Dusty could have gotten into the bathtub herself.

Dusty's biological parents say they just wanted justice for their daughter.

Since her hospitalization Dusty has undergone painful skin grafting to her face, neck, and shoulders. She's expected to remain hospitalized for the next several months.

Dusty's parents tell us they hope the foster mother will face charges. In the meantime, because the teen is a juvenile, law prevents the public from learning his identity until he is adjudicated or found guilty.

A foster mother has been charged with neglect after leaving five special needs children with a 15-year-old. One of her foster children suffered serious burns.

All the foster children ages 11 months to 7 years old have been removed from Justine Kersey's home.

"She has been a foster parent since 2016," an employee with the Oklahoma DHS said. "She started as a kinship foster placement and then switched to a traditional foster placement in 2017."

Court documents show Kersey left six children, five who are special needs, at home with her 15-year-old nephew.

The teen admits to Warr Acres police that a 2-year-old was burned during a bath.
Kersey returned home 18 hours later and took the child to the hospital.

DHS says they take these matters seriously and after their own investigation, will be taking action against one of their own.

"We have found out some things and we're going to end up taking personnel action," the employee said.

why would this stupid woman leave 5 special needs babies with a 15 years old if she needed time away??? all i had to do as a foster parent (and let me tell you that having 3 teens at a time is rough but 5 special needs little is much harder) was ask for respite for a w/e or what ever time i needed and yea some foster parents did just respite not long term fostering to give foster parents and some single parents that were involved with child protection, much needed away time...
