A Florida man was arrested Saturday for allegedly going on a vandalism spree, scrawling anti-racism messages on some 100 stop signs in one community, a report said.
Zachary Kato, 32, is accused of using stencils and paint to write “racism” or “I can’t breathe” under the word “stop” on traffic signs in the city of Port Orange.

Kato’s alleged vandalism spree cost the city $12,500 in damage, the report said.

Police tracked him down with the help of surveillance footage.

Officers recovered paint cans in his garbage and other evidence, including receipts and cellphone screenshots.

Upon the discovery of the evidence, Kato went on an expletive-filled rant, according to the report.

He allegedly dared the cops who searched his home to arrest him, fuming: “I want to see a judge and jury tell me that speaking out against (expletive) racism is wrong.”

Kato was charged with criminal mischief.

He has several prior arrests, including one in 2013, when he was accused of strangling his father in a fight.

I want to say how this is reflective of "white allies" but I won't, because this is simply too amusing. Yes, he's very anti-racist, and that is good. But he is a vandal, and, generally speaking, a Florida doofus. Is he contributing anything serious to the cause of anti-racism? I believe not. But, I do grin regarding, and perhaps admire, his enthusiasm on the matter. If he spray-painted one or two signs, that would have gotten across the message very well. But no, he makes it his life's work of the moment to spray-paint every stop sign in sight and turn a benign traffic sign into a political statement.

I believe the man's attempt at civil right activism is missing the mark because while he has every intention of doing the right thing and standing up for the right causes, as opposed to being an admirable citizen who champions the rights of his fellow citizens of color and making us think somberly about the state of race in the United States, he instead comes off as a comic relief with a degree of hyper-specific giddy silliness.

Also, FLORIDA!
