A 26-year-old father has been shot dead in Iowa while he was attending his eight-year-old son's funeral after the little boy died following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Jeramie Shorter was shot in the parking lot outside the Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport in eastern Iowa on Saturday morning.

Shorter, who had a total of 17 children, died in hospital shortly after.

Police have since charged 24-year-old Nuemonei Tre Vonne Laster over the fatal shooting.

The funeral home said the shooting happened following an altercation between two attendees in the parking lot.

Investigators, however, have not yet released a motive for the shooting and it is not clear if the two men knew each other.

Shorter had been at the funeral home for a visitation period ahead of his son Jermier Leon Shorter's funeral.

His son had died on July 18 following a battle with cancer.

Jamie Delaney Shorter, who is the victim's father, told KWQC that he couldn't fathom why anyone would bring a gun to a child's funeral.

'Him losing his son. I'm losing my grandson to cancer that he fought for many years. We went through that two weeks ago, then to go through this? Now I don't have him. It's hard,' he said.

'Why would you want to bring a gun to a kids wake? To a baby's wake? No matter what's going on. Where was your mind thinking?'

During the chase, the suspect - later identified Laster - threw a bag containing a gun over a fence, police said.

Laster is prohibited from having a gun because of felony convictions from 2018.

Damn! They did? Not in the Spring of '81! Of course by then I knew ALL about it, when my oldest brother's sex ed time came, my Mother, with her Master's in Human Sexuality, sat us all down and said "I'm only going to do this once, so pay attention!" We were 10, 9, 7 & 6. It still makes me laugh! :joyful:

New Money.
Really?
Shoulda gone with Reed Tarded.

Shorter was no father he was an irresponsible pancake batter slinging animal but the DNA weaponized was more an insemination factory.
Perhaps he was fulfilling a dream of making a baseball team of 17.

Jermier Leon Shorter
2012 - 2020

Jermier was born on May 15, 2012 to Kylea Crawford and Jeramie Shorter in Davenport, Iowa. He was a true fighter and never let cancer keep him down. Jermier loved to play video games with his siblings, fighting with his bladeblades, and just having a good time with his friends and family. Jermier loved going to school, watching all of the super hero movies, and listening to his music. His courage and love for others will never be forgotten.

17 kids I’m sure are on welfare, unless this 26 year old looser is a tech wiz, personally glad this world population explosion experts life was ended, before he impregnates hundreds more stupid women
I haven’t seen any mention of a job, only that he had a great smile
Good news everyone.
He no longer has to worry about child support.
im pretty sure he relied on our tax money to support his kids and planned many more. Personally happy he was stopped before surpassing a hundred, someone should have ended this asshole long ago

My goodness, I missed this story earlier this week. Assuming he started procreating at 15, that’s about a kid a year. I want to know how many mothers there are and also just WHY?! Does he learn after 20? Cause he didn’t learn after the first three sets of 5. Those pics of the kiddo at the hospital take me back...such a hard thing to see kids fight cancer but they almost always have such good dispositions about it.
