An award-winning elementary school teacher in San Diego's South Bay was arrested Tuesday on child sex abuse charges, according to the National City School District.

Jacqueline Ma, a 6th-grade teacher at Lincoln Acres Elementary School, faces three counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, and three counts of oral copulation with a child under 14, according to San Diego County Sheriff's Department records.

Ma, 34, was booked at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility, according to the sheriff's department.

District Superintendent Leighangela Brady sent NBC 7 a statement Tuesday evening confirming Ma was arrested on campus at around 8 a.m., away from students. The district is only aware of one alleged victim and they are no longer a student in the district, according to Brady.

Investigators have not detailed when the alleged abuse occurred. The National City Police Department launched the investigation after a parent reported Monday concerns her 13-year-old child possibly had an inappropriate relationship with a former teacher.

An award-winning California teacher broke down in tears in court as she confessed to sexually abusing two of her students, ages 11 and 12.

Jacqueline Ma, who was named “Teacher of the Year” in San Diego County just months before her arrest, was facing a staggering 180 years behind bars for the shocking abuse at Lincoln Acres Elementary School in National City.

That was knocked down Wednesday when she admitted lewd acts with her students as part of a plea deal that could still see her sentenced to 30 years to life.

“Guilty,” Ma told the judge through sobs, video from Fox 5 San Diego shows.

Ma also pleaded guilty to a count of possessing material containing a minor engaged in or simulating sexual conduct for sending the boys X-rated images and begging them to send her photos of them engaged in sex acts.

“This was very significant to us, not just because she won an award, but because of who she was in the community,” Deputy District Attorney Drew Heart told Fox San Diego.

Save those tears. She's just sorry she got caught. I hope her victims find peace and their identities aren't figured out. I cannot think of much worse or awkward than being outted at school for being abused by a teacher.
It's always the ones who go above and beyond.
Before being arrested for CP, my ex's mother was a beloved nurse who worked with kids who had cancer. Everyone loved and trusted her. I always wonder if there isn't some sick satisfaction they get out of tricking everyone. Having people praise you while you destroy their children.

Oh many many of the most prolific do it right under peoples noses, it may well not be why they start but I garuntee they get a kick out of it.

It was a dramatic day in a South Bay courtroom as a former teacher confessed to her crimes.

Jacqueline Ma was once named “teacher of the year” before it was discovered that she was committing sex crimes against two young boys.

“I am speaking today because I am guilty of my crimes and I’m deeply ashamed of my actions,” Ma told the courtroom through tears. “I violated my original commitment to be the kind of teacher all parents hope their children will have.”

Ma confessed to her crimes against two young boys, saying she deeply regretted the pain and suffering she caused at Lincoln Acres Elementary School in National City.
“I ripped away their childhood instead of following the path of what a teacher should be, I let my selfishness overrun the boys’ best interests,” Ma said.

In 2022, Ma was recognized as one of San Diego County’s “teachers of the year.” But in the spring of 2023, the mother of a 12-year-old boy found sexually explicit messages between her son and Ma, including one where Ma told the boy she was in love with him.
After the mother reported it to police, investigators discovered that Ma had not only been buying gifts for the boy, she had also been having a sexual relationship with him.

Police later found evidence that Ma also groomed an 11-year-old boy years earlier, but it ended when she took off her shirt in front of him inside a classroom. Prosecutors say he left the classroom out of fear.
“I just pray for an extra hand of protection and strength to all of those I’ve hurt. I’m so sorry,” Ma said during the sentencing.
Ma was given 30 years to life in prison, meaning she will not be eligible for parole for 30 years. She must also register as a sex offender.
