Police say they are searching for a 26-year-old Stamford man who is wanted in connection with the death of a 2-year-old child.
Officers are attempting to locate Edgar Ismalej-Gomez in connection with the child’s "untimely death," according to Stamford Police Capt. Thomas Scanlon.
Ismalej-Gomez was arrested in August 2021 for abusing a 6-month-old child, whose arm was broken, police said at the time. Ismalej-Gomez was sentenced in April 2022 after pleading guilty to risk of injury to a minor and a reduced charge of third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, according to judicial records. As part of his plea agreement, Ismalej-Gomez served 60 days of a five-year prison sentence followed by three years of probation, judicial records show.

Edgar Ismalej-Gomez is a suspect in the death of his 2-year-old son, Liam, who was found in a plastic bag buried in a park, according to Stamford police.

Stamford police said they received a call at 11:52 a.m. Monday reporting a possible kidnapping and a child who might have been injured.
Authorities learned the child might have been buried in the area of Cummings Park, and officers found an area where dirt was disturbed. It was there where they found the child buried in a plastic bag, police said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the child died of homicide and the cause of death was blunt force injuries to the head.
He was arrested Tuesday morning on a violation of probation warrant and he is being held on charges unrelated to the child's death. Bond has been set at $3 million.

The mother of a 2-year-old boy found dead and buried in a park in Stamford earlier this month was arrested on Friday, according to the Stamford Police Department.
Iris Rivera-Santos, 29, was arrested by Stamford police in connection with the death of her son, 2-year-old Liam Rivera, who was found buried in Cummings Park on Jan. 2. She was charged with risk of injury to a minor, hindering prosecution, tampering with evidence and cruelty to persons and is currently being held in lieu of a $1 million bond.

please don't tell me that the baby he abused at 6 months is they one he killed when he was 2.... that woman couldn't have been stupid enough to take him back after he injured their child and if she did she should also be charged with murder cuz she knew it would be just a matter of time before the abuse excalated and how it would end up..... if so, how many more times did that asshat abused that poor little one before finally killing him cuz plea deal and 60 days in jail for a 5 years sentence sure taught him alot.....

"Ismalej-Gomez kept the child's mother captive for four days at gunpoint." she sure is setting up her defence ,, abuse wife that did take back baby abusing pos after he came out of jail... and also this "The two drove to West Virginia before returning to Stamford, and the woman called her attorney, who notified police." What kind of "mother" that has been held captive for 4 days at gunpoint by the man that killed her child calls her lawyer first and have him report the crimes to the police??? Hell i would beat the living shiiit out of him first then call the cops to come get what is left of him...he had to sleep sometimes after all!!!!! i think she called her lawyer to cover her own ass/ets !!! can't wait for her trial to see how the poor thing was so in fear for her life that she took her abuser back after he abused his own (and her own) baby after he was in jail for 2 bigggggggg awful months for abusing his baby... she didn't call her lawyer back then to start divorce (if they were married) to protect her child or even find other living arrangements for her and her child while he was in jail,, she didn't go to a abuse woman shelter, contact cops to put a no contact protection for her or her child etc, nothing at all but wait for him and take him back :( boy she sure must have been in fear for her life...

A mother and father in Connecticut will spend more than a decade in prison for their roles in the death of their 2-year-old son, whose body was discovered buried in a shallow grave at a local park nearly three years ago.
Iris Rivera-Santos and Edgar Ismalej-Gomez on Tuesday both formally pleaded guilty to all of the charges they faced in the slaying of young Liam Rivera, court records show. The charges for each included counts of intentional cruelty to a child, risk of injury to a child, tampering with physical evidence, conspiracy, and moving a dead body without a permit.

In exchange for pleading to their crimes, a Fairfield County Superior Court judge accepted plea deals requiring the mother and father each serve 16 years in a state correctional facility, the Stamford Advocate reported.
Notably, neither parent admitted to killing Liam, although the medical examiner who conducted the boy's autopsy determined that his cause of death was "multiple blunt force traumas to the head."
Despite his plea, Ismalej-Gomez's defense attorney, Dominick Angotta, said his client continues to maintain his innocence.

"Edgar adamantly maintains that he had nothing to do with the child's death," the attorney told New York-based cable news station News 12 after the plea hearing. "Obviously, he made some horrible choices and for that, he has today accepted full responsibility."

A judge has revoked an offer of 16 years in prison for the parents of a 2-year-old boy who was killed and buried at Cummings Park in January 2023 after sustained abuse, saying he believed a stiffer penalty was in order.
Iris Rivera-Santos and Edgar Ismalej-Gomez each pleaded guilty in November to all of the charges they faced in connection with the death of Liam Rivera, 2, who was found in a shallow grave in Cummings Park on Jan. 2, 2023.
They were scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday to 16 years in prison based on the guilty pleas. Instead, Stamford Superior Court Judge Gary White said after reading pre-sentence investigation documents that he was withdrawing the offer in favor of higher sentences for both.
"After reviewing these reports I decided that the offer the court initially made was insufficient, it was too light," White said. "I think a higher sentence for each defendant is more appropriate."
White said he now is offering Rivera-Santos a 20-year sentence and Ismalej-Gomez an 18-year sentence. The case was continued to April 21 when the two will have to tell the judge whether they will accept the sentence or take their cases to trial. White agreed that if the pair wanted to withdraw their guilty pleas to take their case to trial they would be allowed to do so on April 21.

A judge that does not coddle criminals is so rare these days.

Edgar Ismalej-Gomez received a 18-year sentence. Iris Rivera-Santos was given 20 years.

Both pleaded guilty to charges connected to the death of their 2-year-old son, Liam.

Police discovered Liam's body in a shallow grave at the park on Jan. 2, 2023. Officials said Liam had suffered from blunt force trauma to his head and he had several bruises on his body.
An earlier plea offer of 16 years for both was rejected by a judge as too lenient.
