On Tuesday, Hurricane City Police arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly abusing a child.

Dakota R. Woolsey was charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse.

According to the cases's probable cause statement, officers responded after receiving a report of child abuse. Authorities reported the child, a 9-month-old boy, had bruising on his left eye, which also had blood spots in it. It was also found the child had contusion marks on his chest, neck and back area in addition to trauma on his forehead and jaw.

The boy was transported to the hospital for evaluation, according to the report.

The suspect, Dakota R. Woolsey, was identified and questioned by officers at the police department, according to the probable cause. Officers wrote Woolsey told them he had been at home with the 9-month-old victim as well as a 3-year-old boy.

According to the report, Woolsey said the mother, who he is dating, left the home for a job interview and when she returned he woke up the 9-month-old victim from a nap and showed the mother the injuries the child had. Authorities indicated Woolsey originally told them he didn't know what had happened to the child and that there had been no injuries when he had first put him down for a nap.

Woolsey also told authorities he had heard the victim crying and when he went to check on him found he was alright. However, according to the report, when police questioned him again, Woolsey said there was some redness around the child's eye. According to the probable cause, Woolsey said he "was frustrated and that the victim wouldn't stop crying" but denied doing anything to hurt the child.

Reports indicate Woolsey also admitted to trying to choke the child to get him to stop crying and later said the child had been gasping for air.

Authorities later learned the victim had fractured ribs and a fractured right tibula and fibula. However, according to the report, these injuries were found to have been from an earlier date. Authorities reported Woolsey was then asked about these injuries and, after first denying causing them, later told officers he had kicked the victim but said he didn't know how hard as he blacks out when mad.
