A Georgia man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his four-month-old son in 2017 just hours after complaining about the child on Facebook.

Ortiz Deion Smothers, Jr., pleaded guilty to one count of Felony Murder in the Houston County Superior Court.

The 23-year-old was sentenced immediately after his plea and was given a life sentence in the state penitentiary with the possibility of parole.

Smothers will be eligible for parole after serving a minimum of 30 years.

The horrifying incident happened on the morning of June 12, 2017 in the city of Perry.

Smothers and his son, Omar Smothers, were reportedly staying at a cousin's house at the time.

Smothers was the sole caretaker starting around 7.30am and began posting his frustrations on Facebook shortly after.

'Omar was being the biggest cry baby right now, and I’m tired,' Smothers wrote, according to The Macon Telegraph.

At 10.33am, he said: 'Jr done went back to sleep — guess I’ll gas up.'

The police report identified 'gas up' as smoke marijuana.

Shortly afterwards an adult and other children in the home, 'awoke to the baby scream and the accused come in and advise ... to call 911.'

Omar was reportedly unresponsive and the side of his head was beginning to swell.

Authorities were dispatched to the home at 10.50am and Omar was taken to Navicent Health's pediatric I.C.U.

Doctors determined that the child suffered multiple bilateral fractures in his skull and believed the injuries were not consistent with any sort of accidental cause.

On June 13, Omar was pronounced brain dead and taken off of life support.

Smothers admittedly had a bad temper, according to the warrant.

Additionally, other witnesses told a sheriff’s investigator that they had seen and heard Smothers “strike the child and cuss at the child,” according to the warrant.

He probably abused the baby since the day it was born.

The article does not say whether it was this incident or previous incidents where people observed him abusing the baby but I am sure they saw it and did nothing.
