Chelsea Denise Massey, 30, was taking care of her friend's 2-month-old son when the infant stopped breathing, the charge against her alleges. Massey's friend allegedly had warned her about the dangers of co-sleeping with a baby.

According to the affidavit filed with the felony arrest warrant, on November 28, 2022 authorities were called to a Roland residence following a report of a child not breathing. Pafford EMS arrived on the scene and pronounced the child deceased.

On June 15, 2023, Sequoyah County investigators received the Medical Examiner's report which stated the cause of death as accidental asphyxia. Also listed as contributing factors were methamphetamine exposure, bocavirus infection, and unsafe sleep environment with adult bed, soft bedding and bed sharing.

The affidavit also states that Massey was under the influence while caring for the child and she failed to provide adequate care for the child's health, safety, and welfare. It also states that the child had methamphetamine in its system at the time of death.
