A Chandler mother was arrested on Friday for alleged child abuse related to the fentanyl overdose death of her 15-year-old son, authorities said.
Chandler police responded to a call on April 10 around 8:45 a.m. regarding a person not breathing.
The mother, Jamie Barrett, said her 15-year old son had foam coming out of his mouth and wasn’t responding, police said in a press release.
When officers arrived, they took the teen to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Barret told officers the marijuana vape pens her son used might have been laced with fentanyl, while police had already suspected the death may had been overdose related.
Cell phone records between Barrett and her son revealed that she attempted to have him purchase Fentanyl pills for her and offered to give him one if he successfully acquired them, police said.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner informed Chandler Police on Tuesday that Barrett’s son died from the toxic effects of Fentanyl.
