Marcus Brown, 36, and Annette Slater, 33, face aggravated child abuse charges in connection to an eleven-year-old mute and blind quadriplegic girl being left unsupervised at a hospital in West Palm Beach.

Hospital staff told police the girl weighed only 45 pounds and appeared to be "skin and bones." According to the arrest report, the girl who also has Cerebral Palsy and suffers from Epilepsy, had an infected thumb. Police said she chewed on it down to the bone. Doctors had to partially amputate it due to the infection.

Police said Brown refused to return to the hospital to speak with detectives or workers with the Department of Children and Families.

Police said DCF tried on multiple occasions to help Brown with the girl's doctor's appointments. According to the report, investigators said Brown and Slater "showed an utter unwillingness to cooperate" in reference to the victim.

DCF says investigations involving the girl go back to 2008 and include family violence threats, inadequate supervision and substance misuse, and medical neglect.

Omg, how sad is that. Can you imagine being so cold hearted? Hopefully, now she will get the care she deserves and they will get the punishment they deserve. Well, they won't, of course, because that would be considered cruel and unusual. Too bad an exception can't be made in cases like this.
You know what really offends me? And this is probably stupid, but her braids offend the fuck out of me. She sat long enough for all of those perfectly even, neat braids, but she couldn’t take a few minutes a day to take care of the child’s finger. And you know good and well the money for “taking care” of this child paid for those braids. And I’ll bet dollars to donuts this woman didn’t do anything to care for this little girl’s hair.

With such profound disabilities her quality of life is not the same as people without disabilities, but it still can be good with love and caring touches. Every human being deserves to be cuddled and touched with love and kindness. It means so much, especially when her other senses are not available for simulation.
