South Milwaukee police have taken two people into custody in connection with the death of a 4-year-old child.

Officers and paramedics were dispatched to a home around 7 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28 for a report of an unresponsive child. Life-saving efforts were performed but were unsuccessful. The child died at the scene.

Officials say they took into custody the 21-year-old mother of the child and a 22-year-old man. Their case will be reviewed by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office next week.

An autopsy will be performed on the child.

A South Milwaukee man and woman are charged in connection with the death of a 4-year-old child on Friday, Feb. 28. The accused are Jerome Millen, 22, and Christina Collado, 21, the child’s mother. The pair face the following criminal counts:
  • Physical abuse of a child, repeated acts causing death (Millen)
  • Chronic neglect of a child – consequence is death (Collado)
According to the criminal complaint, first responders were dispatched to a home on Montana Avenue in South Milwaukee around 7 a.m. on Friday. When they arrived on the scene, they found a 4-year-old child that “was pulseless and not breathing.” The child was wearing only a diaper — and the first responders noted numerous bruises on the child’s jaw, head, forearm, and sternum. The child also suffered “what appeared to be a human bite mark” and a burn injury. The child was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The complaint indicates prior to first responders arriving on the scene, Millen fled the house. But he was arrested a short while later. Police were familiar with Millen and knew he spent time with a friend. They located him at that friend’s house — and took him into custody.

Later on Friday, investigators spoke with Collado and Millen. When confronted with the child’s numerous injuries, “Collado admitted that Jerome Millen Mr. was in fact abusing (the child),” the complaint says. She also admitted witnessing Millen bite the child on two separate occasions.

On the morning of Feb. 28, Collado indicated to authorities she “heard a loud banging sound.” The complaint says she saw Millen forcibly trying to get the child to go to sleep and indicated that “he was going too far.” Collado told police “if she properly protected (the child), (the child) would still be alive.”

When investigators questioned Millen, they first told him the child was deceased. Millen responded, “so my life is over,” the complaint says. Millen “admitted to covering (the child’s) mouth multiple times” in an effort to get the child to sleep. The complaint also says Millen admitted “‘if all the injuries caused (the child) to die, it’s my fault, my fault’ and further stated, ‘if she suffocated, that is my responsibility and I killed that child.'”

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy on the child — and made a preliminary ruling that the child’s manner of death was homicide.

I startled when I saw her sweet picture as it brought to mind the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem There Was a Little Girl and my mom would recite it to meittle with a smile of love.
I'll just give the first 3 lines.

There was a little girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.

Autumn should have been loved as much as I was also.
How very, very wrong she wasn't.

P.S. For some reason, I can picture the respective fathers of 2 of our members lovingly reciting the words of H.W.L.'s poem to them when they were just little girls.

Not my dad. My dads mother, the sweetest most loving grandmother.

That little redhead with her gap tooth grin looks like she could be part of my family.

I’m a faithful watcher of Dr. Sandra Lee Pimple Popper. Can I pleeeeaaase practice on him?! It won’t cost the state a dime! I won’t use anesthesia and I’ll use equipment from the kitchen, and the bathroom.

That thing on his face looks like a growth to me, or perhaps his brain, in its entirety. But if it's his brain I imagine you could remove it without causing behavioral changes.

The kid was at least cute. The parents.... vomit.

oh and BULLET TO THE HEAD

She looks like an evil pixie from some fantasy film like The Dark Crystal or Willow and the explosion on that dudes forehead is gonna be a bigger eruption than Mount St.Helens. Both are nasty.

The two South Milwaukee residents found guilty of abuse and neglect leading to the death of a 4-year-old girl have both been sentenced.

Jerome Millen was sentenced Oct. 9 to 33½ years with 13½ years of extended supervision on three counts of which he was found guilty — first-degree reckless homicide and two counts of child abuse, intentionally causing harm, according to online court records.

The child’s mother, Christina Collado, was sentenced the same day to five years in prison and five years of extended supervision for felony chronic neglect of a child, causing death.

Both Millen and Collado previously pleaded guilty to all counts related to the Feb. 28 incident in which South Milwaukee police, fire and paramedics responded to a home for an unresponsive 4-year-old girl.

According to two criminal complaints:

Millen admitted to striking the girl and covering her mouth multiple times, including smothering her with a pillow.

“If all the injuries caused (her) to die, it’s my fault,” Millen told police. “If she suffocated that is my responsibility and I killed that child.”

The findings from an autopsy by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner were consistent with suffocation, leading to a preliminary homicide ruling for the child’s death.
