Secret Service Interviews Disgraced Ex-FBI Director James Comey Over ‘86 47’ Instagram Post

Former FBI Director James Comey was interviewed by the Secret Service Friday evening after President Trump accused him of calling for the commander in chief’s assassination by posting a photo with the coded message “8647” to his Instagram account.

Video aired by CNN showed Comey, 64, departing his suburban Virginia home for the interview, held at the Secret Service’s Washington field office.

A federal law enforcement source confirmed to The Post that Comey arrived for the sitdown shortly before 6 p.m.

Comey, who was fired by Trump in May 2017 after serving as FBI director since September 2013, caused an outcry Thursday evening when he posted a photo of seashells arranged in the numerals with the caption: “Cool shell formation on my beach walk.”

“He knew exactly what that meant,” Trump told Fox News “Special Report” host Bret Baier in an interview recorded Thursday. “A child knows what that meant … That meant ‘assassination.'”

Comey subsequently deleted the picture, claiming he didn’t understand what the message meant in its entirety.

“It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down,” the now-crime novelist wrote.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Thursday her department had launched an investigation into the “threat” made by the “disgraced former FBI director.”

Man, what a dumb post by Comey.

First off, I'm not literally taking it as a call to assassinate Donald Trump. Because 86ing someone means expelling someone or establishing that they are not welcome to show up at a specific area or venue. Basically, 86ing someone is synonymous with banning someone. So, the seashell formation could just call to "remove Trump from the presidency", or to loudly protest what he is doing as president, or to stand up to the president and state emphatically that in their opinion "what he is doing is wrong".

But with all the hate and vitriol that has been drawn Trump's way, as well as the Assassination Culture that surrounds discourse around Trump; it shows that there is too much normalization of pro-assassination sentiment toward Trump, and too many people hoping or actively calling for such a thing to happen to Trump (and/or his supporters). And I, therefore, think that with the ambiguity that the "86 47" seashell message offers; there is too much of an appearance that it may possibly be wanting to solicit a 3rd assassination attempt against him.

On top of that, with Comey having previously been in a powerful position in a nonpartisan part of national government, he needs to know better than to be openly disdainful or flippant toward a sitting president, especially in such an unserious way as this. He is no longer with the FBI, so there is not quite as much conflict of interest at play with his stupid social media post; but even as an emeritus FBI director, his post is still unacceptable and invites legitimate scrutiny and question toward what he did when he was FBI director as well as his meanwhile motives.

Umm, did we all forget the exact same thing was going on with Biden in office?
