Secret Service Director Resigns After Admitting Agency's Failure To Protect Trump

U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has stepped down after widespread calls from lawmakers for her to resign following the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump, three sources told NBC News.

In her resignation letter, obtained from a senior official who received it, Cheatle wrote that the "scrutiny over the last week has been intense and will continue to remain as our operational tempo increases." She added she takes "full responsibility for the security lapse."

"In light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to step down as your Director," wrote Cheatle, who had led the agency since September 2022.

It's unclear when her last day will be.

It will be interesting to see where she lands employment wise.

I think the people pulling the strings were probably hoping that it was Biden who got assassinated or at least an attempt made on him.

I think the secret service was providing shoddy security to both Biden and Trump and want her gone so no other information comes out about what was being done or not done behind the scenes.

If Biden was the one assassinated people would have had to just accept Harris and she would continue to be the puppet that Biden was.

I disagree about Biden, she was his appointee and it wasn't through his advisors, it was an appointment by Jill. Jill wanted Trump out and Biden to win four more years, she's into the money and power and not willing to give it up

Cheatle was looking out for her own self and for money I think she would stab anyone in the back - that is just how democrats do each other.

Could it not have been more obvious? The word "cheat" is literally in her name!

It's certainly time for massive changes at Secret Service. They need to prioritize first and foremost protecting the president (and past presidents, and presidential candidates) with the best qualified people. That is the only "social justice" issue they should ever care about, and it is a very important one to care about.

Secret Service should be impartial and stand apart, no matter which side of our great political divide they stand on, the person they are protecting should be the only one they are concerned with in the moment.

Kim Cheatle is a master of circular speaking, she's great at double talk and fancy foot work. But in this case it didn't help her because she was questioned by people who can do it even better than she can.

Glad I wasn't the only that thought this! I've been hearing about her for maybe a year+/-. Sometimes I listen to the Dan Bongino podcast, he is former USSS, and he served on several Presidential details and was the leader of Obama's detail when he left the USSS. He's had not nice things to say about Cheatle for a long time. Just because you were once an agent does NOT mean that you can run the whole agency. He predicted last September (I remember because I was on vacation at the time) that something this major could easily happen under her leadership, or lack thereof. He wasn't lying...
